Building with the YGG Guild Protocol
Yield Guild Games (YGG) has published its Concept Paper, presenting its vision for a new era in web3 made possible through the Guild Protocol, a global standard for how guilds conduct their activities onchain.
“Guilds are the foundation of everything YGG does in web3. Our community is made up of thousands of guilds with their own communities,” said YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon. “All these groups want to play together and collaborate. As a Guild Protocol, YGG is giving everyone the tools to grow, scale and earn within the ecosystem, so that all guilds can showcase their talents and achieve bigger things together.”
Central to the Guild Protocol is establishing Onchain Guilds, communities with a provable track record in web3. By tightening the onchain integration of its industry-leading guild platform, YGG looks to maximize the social and economic outcomes for everyone exploring the possibilities in web3 gaming and beyond.
Who Can Join an Onchain Guild?
Groups of any specialization, even outside of gaming, can create or join an Onchain Guild. The only prerequisite is that the creator has a YGG account and YGG tokens. Even a lone individual can establish an Onchain Guild and start recruiting members with interests and skills they want to build a community around.
Questers who have collected achievement badges through YGG’s Guild Advancement Program (GAP) and Superquests already have the foundation to succeed as part of an Onchain Guild. Those non-transferable, immutable soulbound tokens (SBTs) build web3 reputation, which guild leaders can permissionlessly verify when seeking quality members. In turn, YGG’s over 100 ecosystem partners will be able to identify which guilds should be given priority access to the latest offerings from their development pipelines.
Anyone who is skilled, collaborative, eager to expand their knowledge, and wants to join a community where they can contribute while having fun is an ideal candidate to become part of an Onchain Guild.
A Modular Platform Built for All
The YGG Guild Protocol offers a modular dapp system equipping all types of Onchain Guilds to scale. Guilds can choose tools from YGG’s library to meet their distinct needs. Core features will include:
- Management Dashboard: Onchain Guilds will have access to a central hub for all guild governance activities. This will allow administrators to modify their member list, set up collaboration tools, facilitate payment to the guild, and more.
- Work Management: YGG’s modular dapps will enable Onchain Guilds to run their own quests, such as user acquisition campaigns, game testing with YGG’s partners, and Future of Work microtasks such as AI data labeling.
- Treasury Wallet: Each Onchain Guild will have their own multi-sig treasury wallet to securely store their shared resources.
- NFT Issuance: Onchain Guilds will have the authority to issue SBTs to their members. These include guild badges to signify affiliation with the Onchain Guild, as well as achievement badges earned from the guild’s internal questing campaigns.
The Guild Protocol in Action
In practice, the YGG Guild Protocol will enable YGG’s partners to focus their rewards on cohorts most likely to deliver long-term value to their projects, identifying the best candidates through their verifiable attributes. This will give Onchain Guilds access to products, platforms and experiences that are best aligned with their skills and preferences.
Each unique Onchain Guild can utilize the Guild Protocol’s modular tools to facilitate their operations and ultimately open doors to further opportunities.
Competitive Gaming Guilds
A guild specializing in first-person shooter (FPS) games can form an Onchain Guild structured around its members’ verifiable achievements in leaderboards and tournaments. Here’s how this type of guild could use the Guild Protocol’s tools:
- Management Dashboard: To vote on tournaments to compete in and how to distribute rewards.
- Treasury Wallet: To manage tournament winnings and earnings from sponsorship deals.
- Work Management: To create game testing tasks for the latest FPS releases.
Up-and-coming FPS games can easily seek out this guild and leverage their expertise by giving them early access to provide feedback. Guilds like this could be identified through the following verifiable attributes:
- Guild: Number of members, date created, leaderboard rankings.
- Assets: Tokens from tournament winnings, treasury size.
- Activity: SBTs received for leaderboard achievements and tournament victories.
AI Data Labeling Guilds
Guilds highly skilled at AI data labeling tasks can scale by forming an Onchain Guild as well. The tools made available by the Guild Protocol can enable their growth in the following ways:
- Management Dashboard: To onboard new data labelers, assign roles, facilitate performance reviews, and track progress on larger projects.
- Treasury Wallet: To automatically distribute token rewards from completed programs.
- Work Management: To create quests specific to the guild and enable members to claim tasks and track their completion.
A guild like this could design quests to reward members based on the complexity of tasks they finish, the quality of their output, their turnaround time, and more. In the future, more platforms can engage with the guild by searching for its verifiable attributes:
- Guild: Number of members, platforms with tasks completed, nature of tasks performed.
- Assets: Task rewards earned on average.
- Activity: SBTs received for completing tasks and hitting task-related milestones.
Artist Guilds
An artist collective can create an Onchain Guild to distribute their work digitally, scale the amount of work they produce, and streamline how their pieces are distributed on NFT marketplaces. The Guild Protocol’s modular tools can help them collaborate more effectively:
- NFT Issuance: To mint and sell digital art directly from the YGG platform.
- Management Dashboard: To distribute funds for joint projects and vote on commissions to take.
- Work Management: To organize community art challenges by running quests.
- Treasury Wallet: To manage sales and royalties.
This Onchain Guild could empower artists by making their portfolios verifiable through SBTs, which can also showcase their work history. Here are some attributes interested patrons can search for to commission such a collective:
- Guild: Number of members, locations where the artists are based, exhibition history.
- Assets: High-value NFT art assets, royalties held in the treasury.
- Activity: SBTs received for joining exhibitions, sales milestones, attribution on collaborative projects.
Forging the Future of Guilds Onchain
YGG looks to empower its community to take ownership of their role in the ecosystem. With the capacity to scale independently, Onchain Guilds will serve as the bedrock of the industry’s economy.
Onboarding the world into web3 has always been about community. By building on top of the YGG Guild Protocol, guilds can create more meaningful and rewarding experiences that will shape the future of the open Metaverse.
