YGG Acquires Heroes in Play-To-Earn MOBA Game, Thetan Arena
YGG adds another mobile friendly-game to its growing catalog of play-to-earn games by partnering with Thetan Arena, an e-sport Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game based on blockchain technology. The game allows players to gather friends, form a team, battle with others and earn token rewards with a combination of gaming skills and teamwork.
YGG has participated in Thetan Arena’s token sale and purchased 250 Common Heroes, 100 Epic Heroes, and 50 Legendary Heroes. Thetan Arena could also host tournaments for YGG scholars to earn yield. Once Thetan Arena builds the infrastructure to lend out NFTs, YGG will also be able to offer scholarship programs to let its player-base participate in Thetan Arena’s play-to-earn model.
Thetan Arena comes with various types of in-game NFTs called Heroes. Each of them has a unique special ability called “Fury” and has various types of rarity. Heroes with a higher rarity have more unique play styles, abilities, and will have a chance to get bonuses in battle rewards. Users can also gear their Heroes up with a selection of hundreds of weapons.
The game is available in free-to-play mode, where players can earn in-game tokens called Thetan Coin (THC). However, this mode provides fewer opportunities for earning tokens compared to the play-to-earn mode using Premium Heroes. By actively battling in the arena, Premium Heroes act as NFT in-game assets that may earn rewards or income. The owner of Premium Heroes can enter into private arrangements with the actual players, and direct peer-to-peer arrangements for rental of Heroes or sharing rewards obtained cooperatively. Players who are unable to obtain these Premium Heroes may also work together to earn digital tokens. Users can form a team, battle with others, and earn THC rewards with just their skills. When players complete the quests in the game, they receive Quest Points in which players can exchange for THC.
Players can play various game modes: MOBA, a subgenre of strategy video games in which two teams of players compete against each other on a predefined battlefield, and Battle Royale, an online multiplayer video game genre that blends last-man-standing gameplay with the survival, exploration and scavenging elements of a survival game with monthly updates and attractive rewards. Thetan Arena’s gameplay also has a ranking system where the game sorts players’ ranks based on the trophies they get in matches.
Sarutobi Sasuke, Head of Partnerships at YGG highlighted the popularity of the MOBA game genre among YGG’s most competitive gamers. “This partnership will hopefully allow large numbers of the YGG community to jump into a new and exciting play-to-earn game and also look to hone their battling skills in a skill-based competitive MOBA environment,” he added.
Thetan Arena’s game development team Wolffun was founded in 2014, where they specialize in online PVP games for mobile platforms. The game is supported by KardiaChain (a decentralized interoperable and self-optimized blockchain infrastructure) with a vision of a captivating MOBA or Battle Royale game that eliminates most of the commonly seen barriers to create a true “socializing gaming experience” and play-to-earn model.
