Yield Guild Games (YGG) and the award-winning Parallel TCG have announced a partnership that will bring one of the biggest web3 esports tournaments of the year to Manila, Philippines. A $100,000 prize pool is up for grabs for players who are invited to compete at the YGG Play Summit on November 19–23, 2024. Invited players will be those who made it to the top 8 rankings in either of two global online qualifier tournaments.

The first 128-player online qualifier will be held on October 12–13, with the first day being a seven-round Swiss Best of 3 Conquest format. The top 8 finishers will move forward to the next day, where they will battle it out to determine who goes home with the most Parallel League points. The second qualifier will follow the same format and will be held on October 26–27. Those who finish in the top 8 during the first day will automatically qualify for the Manila tournament at the summit.

Now in its third year, the YGG Play Summit is a massive week-long event featuring the latest and greatest web3 games of today. Attendees can expect a gathering of founders, content creators, esports players, and web3 gaming enthusiasts. There will be cosplay competitions, multiple tournaments, game demos and show matches, a one-day conference, a three-day expo featuring web3’s hottest titles, and the first-ever in-person GAM3 Awards ceremony to top off the event.

“Ever since the YGG community found out about Parallel TCG, they’ve been excited to play. We saw its potential and watched how it became one of the most popular and competitive web3 games in less than a year,” said Gabby Dizon, co-founder of YGG. “We’ve helped onboard many users to the game through YGG’s quest platforms like GAP and were one of the first to create content to help new players learn and get better at Parallel. This partnership and tournament are a reflection of the game’s success and it makes sense for it to happen in the home of web3 gaming adoption, the Philippines.”

Outside of the tournaments, YGG will be hosting giveaways and posting content on various social channels such as Discord, YouTube, and Facebook. This includes contests at the “Everything Parallel” Facebook group, managed by the YGG community. A lot of promotional content will be released to attract new players to the game. There will also be content focused on educating newcomers, similar to the Parallel Rookie and Planetfall deck guides from YGG Esports Captain Disi posted on the YGG YouTube channel.

Live events have also started running in the Philippines to promote Parallel to the broader tabletop gaming community in the country. Events such as the Parallel x Unbox launch party held at UNBOX Greenhills onboarded new players to the game and also created a space for veterans to gather together. The event included giveaways, a rookie tournament, and tutorials from the YGG team.

YGG has worked actively with the Parallel TCG team this year, and the game made its first appearance in the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) Season 6. In GAP, players could complete quests in Parallel to get YGG points, which they can use to redeem rewards. Those who joined GAP also had a chance to win booster packs and other in-game assets through giveaways. Earlier in the year, YGG collaborated to host “Awakening: The Official Parallel Open Beta Tournament,” and the game was also one of the big features during the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip.

“YGG has supported Parallel even while we were still in the early stages of development, and many of their competitive players have made a mark on the game’s leaderboards and tournaments,” said Kalos, co-founder of Parallel. “It makes sense to hold one of our biggest tournaments this year with YGG and I expect a lot of intense competitive action leading up to the $100,000 tournament at the YGG Play Summit this November.”

The YGG Esports team is represented by several professional players from other TCGs who joined to play Parallel. Among them are former professional Hearthstone players Tyler, Sequinox, and Chris Tsako. Tyler was signed to YGG Esports in June 2024 and went on to win the September Planetfall Clash tournament hosted by Community Gaming. Sequinox signed in January and was the champion of the first Parallel Planetfall invitational.

Many YGG community members have also reached the top 100 leaderboards, thanks to the guidance of YGG Esports team captain Disi, who is ranked among the best players in the game. High-ranking YGG players are openly sharing and discussing strategies on channels such as the YGG Discord to help others improve in the game. YGG Head of Esports Mike Ovecka has also been diligently guiding professional players and content creators coming into Parallel, teaching them the ins and outs of navigating blockchain technology. Mike was Program Manager for Hearthstone Esports at Blizzard, before joining YGG.

Many of these top players will be aiming to rank highly at the upcoming global online qualifiers to earn their entry into the $100,000 tournament at the YGG Play Summit in Manila. With the upcoming second Expansion Aftermath and continuous balance changes in the coming months, players can expect a lot of updates to shake up the game’s meta. Parallel has also been expanding its IP recently, with the announcement of the 3D Shooter game Project Tau Ceti, the second game based on its in-game universe after Parallel Colony.

The tournament announcement garnered strong global media attention, with coverage in VentureBeat, GAM3S.GG, BlockchainGamer.Biz, Playtoearn.com, AP News, Benzinga, and more. Additionally, Philippines-based media covered the news including Inquirer, Esquire, Unbox, Bitpinas, Multiverse.ph, and others.
