The following is a summary of key highlights from the latest Yield Guild Games (YGG) Community Update covering Q2 2024. This update includes news about the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), YGG Esports’ strong competitive showings, the latest initiatives of the YGG network of regional guild partners and the Guild Alliance, and the conclusion of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip.

Throughout 2024, the Yield Guild Games (YGG) core team has continued to expand the global YGG network and refine its suite of products. GAP Season 5 introduced several infrastructure upgrades to the program to enable faster iterations throughout the year. YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon and YGG Pilipinas Country Head Mench Dizon also attended the last leg of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip to thank the Filipino web3 gaming community for contributing to the success of one of its biggest onboarding campaigns thus far.

Below is a recap of YGG’s activities and accomplishments this year so far. For a more comprehensive report on YGG’s initiatives in Q2 2024, please refer to the complete YGG June 2024 Community Update.

Onboarding Filipinos to Web3 Through the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip

Co-organized with YGG Pilipinas, YGG’s regional guild partner in the Philippines, the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip visited various provinces across the Philippines, educating and equipping thousands of Filipinos for success in web3. Building on the Philippines’ status as the global epicenter for web3 gaming adoption, YGG Pilipinas brought web3 closer to more than 7,000 Filipinos through its grassroots community outreach in the cities of Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod and Manila. Guests included students from various universities, local web3 esports teams, and city officials.

The Roadtrip’s last leg, held in Metro Manila, was a fitting end to the months-long tour. The event included a massive cosplay competition, which saw hundreds of attendees vying for a portion of its PHP 100,000 prize pool. The Manila leg also featured a digital representation of the events space hosted by virtual activations company Edison, giving the YGG community a way to attend the event remotely. An estimated 3,000 attendees filled the event grounds in one of the Filipino web3 gaming community’s strongest turnouts thus far.

YGG’s diverse roster of game partners, web3 game development studios, token exchanges, and guilds, all worked together to ensure the success of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip. A selection of some of the YGG community’s favorite games held show matches and live game demonstrations throughout the Roadtrip, including Rumble Racing Star, Parallel, Arena of Faith, My Pet Hooligan, and more. Additionally, Jambo made its first steps into the Philippine market throughout the Roadtrip, providing units of their web3-native JamboPhone, which were given away to several lucky attendees at each of the stops.

The Roadtrip also featured participation from the international web3 community. During the Cebu leg, Immutable Games Studio Executive Producer Jill Keshyap flew in from Australia to promote Guild of Guardians, set to join GAP Season 6. Other international guest speakers at the Cebu leg included Mighty Bear Games CEO Simon Davis promoting the GAP Season 5 game Mighty Action Heroes, and SuperChamps’ Ganesh Hande and Ratul Sathish hyping up GAP Season 6 highlight Bullet League.

Taking YGG’s Questing Platform One Step Further

YGG’s Superquests have proven to be massively successful in onboarding new players. Over 47,000 new wallets have logged onto Axie Infinity: Origins since the first campaign, and in 2024, Superquests became a permanent feature as Axie Origins’ official in-game trainer.

Superquests also saw great success in Pixels, driving over 156,000 new sign-ups during its two-month campaign period. These premium quests proved to be an invaluable tool for encouraging player retention, with 95.7% of players completing all three levels of the offering, thanks to its tight integration with the game.

Season 5 of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) ran during Q2 2024, concluding on June 4, 2024. Over 7,000 community members across YGG’s global network participated, a 77% growth increase in enrollments compared to Season 4. GAP Season 5 saw the introduction of the YGG Points system, which simplified the process of claiming end-of-season rewards. YGG’s improved V3 dapp also made its debut in S5, along with a bigger focus on community-oriented bounty quests. Bounty quests accounted for 54% of all YGG tokens distributed in GAP Season 5, while game quests saw participants earn 13,320 soulbound tokens and 180,965 YGG points over the season.

New Games, New Partners, New Questing Opportunities

During Q2, several of Yield Guild’s game partners were involved in IRL events and earned a spot on a GAP lineup for the very first time. For Season 5 of GAP, Rumble Racing Star and Mighty Action Heroes debuted to a warm reception from the YGG community. This coming Season 6 will see Parallel, Super Champs: Bullet League, and Nifty Island make their first appearance on YGG’s celebrated questing program.

Yield Guild asset acquisitions in Q2 2024 include token positions in Blade of God X, an Immutable-published action RPG with unique AI and web3 integration, and XOCIETY, which has received a wave of new players in the past few months thanks to its brand-new extraction game mode. Yield Guild also secured a token position in Sending Labs to aid in the development of its decentralized token-gated messenger app SendingMe.

During Q2, Yield Guild also entered into strategic partnerships with Sapien and Navigate, two AI data labeling companies with very different approaches to how they present the task of data labeling to their volunteers. Introducing these new partners to its community in GAP Season 6, YGG is offering a set of AI bounty quests to give questers an opportunity to develop new skills to take on the future of work.

YGG Esports’ Newest Recruits on the World Stage

Q2 saw YGG Esports continue its dominance in web3 gaming tournaments and leaderboards. Axie legend spamandrice played a key role in YGG Esports’ victory at the SEA Guild Wars LAN in June 2024, an IRL Axie tournament held in Manila, where the team secured the lion’s share of a 5,000 AXS prize pool. This marked YGG Esports’ first step towards its bid for the Axie Classic Guild World Cup.

New talent in a wider variety of web3 games put YGG Esports in a position to broaden its influence. Syl joined in April 2024 to represent the team on the Sipher Odyssey leaderboards, where he sits as the game’s highest-ranking player.

YGG Esports saw several key additions to its Parallel roster during Q2, most notably welcoming Hearthstone veteran Tyler into the organization in June 2024, who quickly rose to the top of the Parallel leaderboards within weeks of signing. Fellow retired Hearthstone pro Sequinox was also selected to represent the organization during the first Planetfall Invitational, where he emerged as champion.

YGG Network Sees Global Growth

YGG saw a host of activity from its regional guild partners over the course of Q2 2024. OLA GG was featured in GAP Season 5 through a partnered bounty quest, with W3GG slated to join in GAP Season 6. KGeN (formerly IndiGG) also saw massive growth during this period, featuring 5.8 million members as of June 2024, up from 1.8 million in January 2024.

As of June 2024, YGG and its network of regional guild partners have an online reach of 7 million.

Additionally, YGG’s Guild Alliance brought new Philippine-based guilds into the fold. This includes guilds that have been around since the earliest days of web3 gaming such as Sando, Axie University, NFT X-Street, and Real Deal Guild. By the end of 2024, YGG plans to feature a roster of 100 guilds all working together and engaging in friendly competition within the YGG ecosystem, with inter-guild tournaments like the Guild Alliance Cup planned for the rest of the year.

Heading into the Second Half of 2024

Q2 2024 was chock-full of wins for the YGG community. YGG Esports continued to lead the community through its dominant runs in Parallel, Axie Infinity and Sipher Odyssey. GAP and Superquests encouraged more players to dive into web3 games and join YGG’s ranks, while the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip served as an excellent way for total newcomers to get started on their path to success in web3.

Web3 gaming is in a position to build an even stabler foundation for the future. In Q2 alone, the industry has steadily gained momentum thanks to a recent wave of high-quality game releases, increased support for the esports scene, and the groundwork YGG has laid out for communities to form and collaborate onchain.

YGG is gearing up to once again bring the industry’s best and brightest to the YGG Play Summit in Manila on November 18–23, 2024. Stay tuned for more announcements as YGG sets the stage for another massive celebration of web3’s biggest games.
