Yield Guild Games Hosts Its First Managers Summit
Yield Guild Games (YGG) held its first-ever Managers Summit last March 3–5, 2022, at Conrad Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Hosted by YGG Pilipinas, a branch of YGG representing the Philippines, the event was organized to further enrich the YGG Community and to celebrate the milestones that the guild has achieved since its inception in late 2020.
The Managers Summit saw a gathering of over 20 of the guild’s Scholarship Managers, who recruit and mentor the players, called “scholars,” to whom YGG loans out non-fungible token (NFT) assets required to start playing blockchain-based games. These games reward players with cryptocurrency tokens that they can then trade for other cryptocurrencies, or fiat, on an open market. Termed “play-to-earn,” this new category in video gaming has been a significant source of supplemental income for many in the Philippines, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Managers Summit
The event kicked off with YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon sharing the YGG story with the attendees. Also in attendance at the summit were YGG Chief Operating Officer, Colin Goltra, and the YGG Pilipinas core team. YGG Scholarship Managers shared their success stories at the summit, with Managers KooKoo, Spraky, 0xJitsu, and Cody speaking about their experience, best practices for onboarding, organizing, and incentivizing scholars.
YGG Pilipinas Country Manager, Luis Buenaventura, discussed the key achievements of the guild in 2021, highlighting the “hypergrowth” seen by YGG throughout the year, with the goal to onboard over 100,000 scholars by the end of 2022.
“Given the rapid growth of the YGG community, the Managers’ Summit was the first time that many of our Managers got to meet in person and share best practices with one another,” said Kat Gonzalez, YGG Pilipinas Head of Operations. “This was particularly important for us to do as Scholarship Managers are key pillars of our community and play a pivotal role in furthering YGG’s mission of providing Filipinos with access to opportunities in the play-to-earn space.”
According to Mahalie, a YGG Scholar turned Scholarship Manager, meeting the YGG Pilipinas core team in person made him feel the genuine care that they have for each individual who attended the summit. He added, “Seeing YGG’s plans ahead, I feel encouraged to continue building the YGG community and onboard more scholars.”
“The Summit gave us a chance to connect in person with like-minded individuals in Web3, meet and talk about best practices of our scholarships, and learn about YGG’s exciting future plans and projects,” shares Seika, a YGG Scholarship Manager for YGG’s partner guild, AcadArena. “Nothing beats sharing a space filled with passionate people that are working hard to uplift and empower the community.”
YGG Terminals
Luis also announced the development of YGG Terminals, which are physical community hubs where YGG guild members can lounge and play their favorite play-to-earn games. “We think that the Metaverse’s true power can only be unlocked when we fully bridge the physical realm with the digital one, and people will need a simple, safe space to ease into this new paradigm for years to come.” shared Luis. “Our terminals will be part-coworking space, part-tournament venue, part-crypto exchange, and part-learning facility, and importantly be co-owned and operated by our community.” he added.
YGG x UnionDigital
The event was also joined by Arvie de Vera, the co-founder, and chief executive officer of UnionDigital Bank, a newly licensed digital bank entity of the Union Bank of the Philippines. At the conclusion of a fireside chat, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UnionDigital and YGG for the purpose of collaborating to make financial products and services more accessible to the play-to-earn and Web3 communities in the Philippines.
YGG Pilipinas KOLs
Some of YGG Pilipinas’ streamers and content creators, including BoarKnock, Jobols Gaming, RuthlessRedge Gaming, and ArcherPerezz were also at the event.
“As YGG Pilipinas continues to expand and onboard scholars into play-to-earn, our streamers, content creators and KOLs plays an important role to guide and raise awareness about play-to-earn, and educate the broader audience about YGG and our mission.” shares Een Mercado, Head of Talent Development at YGG Pilipinas.
