We worked closely with Joel Price, Senior Director of Digital Media, and Janiece Scharmann, Digital Content Coordinator, of the Los Angeles Chargers to launch their brand-new app this past 2020 NFL season.
One of the unique aspects of their app was a fan profile page, where fans could access “gated” content behind after creating an account and logging into the app. The Chargers wanted their super fans to feel valued, and the fan profile was even featured as one of the 5 bottom-navigation menu items in the app. Through the fan profile page, the Chargers were able to provide registered fans with unique content, such as exclusive wallpapers, app icons, and more.
In another first, when the Chargers hired Brandon Staley to be their new head coach, the introductory press conference was streamed live only through the Chargers app.
Another unique gated features was a “10 Days of Deals,” in a nod to their new quarterback, Justin Herbert, who wears #10. For 10 days in February 2021, the Chargers featured a different deal of the day, each deal with $10 off the value of the specific item. Each deal was available only for 24 hours, and available with the discount, exclusively only through the app.
Here are some of the items that were offered through the Daily Deals feature: Cornhole Game Set, Helmet, Panel Football, Cornhole Bag Set, Powder Hat, Black Hat, Framed Collage, Herbert Vintage T-shirt, Herbert T-shirt, and a Wireless Phone Charger.
By using our Single Sign-On capability, along with our ability to activate/deactivate cards by time and only make them available to registered users, the Chargers were able to quickly deploy these kinds of unique personalized experiences for their superfans.
