We were proud to work closely with the amazing Canadian Olympic Committee team of Mark Nadolny, Ellen McCann, and Colin Freeman, on a daily basis over the last 18 months, to push the envelope on a unique mobile experience.
As expected, the Olympics contain dozens of sports and hundreds of athletes. Indeed, Team Canada has an enviable track record on the Olympic stage over the years and a large fanbase across the country. Our main question for designing the app for 2021 was — how do we do justice to Team Canada’s impressive roster of 371 athletes competing across 30 sports, with content in 2 languages (French and English), and all in 1 app? Only one way.
Personalization, personalization, personalization.
The Canadian Olympic Committee was really keen on ensuring that fans could favorite any number of sports, and also favorite any number of athletes, simply by “starring” them in the app. By creating an account in the app, fans could save away their sport/athlete preferences, and, in return, enjoy a tailored feed of content.

In addition, the app also delivers breaking news, real-time medal results, the schedule of the events (in particular, noting when Canada is scheduled to compete), along with a number of interactive games and opportunities to win prizes.

We are proud of the innovation in the app, and of the many firsts for us. The Team Canada mobile app is our first one for the Olympics. It’s a true bilingual app, with the menu, the content, and the navigation of the app available both in French and in English. This was our first time integrating statistics feeds for the Olympics. In fact, the app lands you on a home page where you can immediately see the medal count (one of the most important things for a fan of the Olympics). Above all, this app was our first to incorporate such a deep personalized experience for fans, across a multitude of possible choices.
