Mind Melt
Letting your head relax…even after a week of vacation
Last week, as I was coming back from a week of “vacation”, I realized how valuable it is to let our mind relax. Although I was out of town, I had spent the week moving a carload of clothing and personal items from one storage place to another, visiting with lots of friends and family, plus playing tour guide for my traveling partner who had never been to the place I used to call home.
It was on the plane ride back to Los Angeles that I realized how much I needed to let my mind rest. I stopped thinking, thought of nothing, and I immediately had an image come to mind of putting on hand cream when our skin is dry and cracked. I termed it “mind melt” and after a few hours of practicing this, I was feeling like myself again.
I still do think of this time as a vacation since I enjoyed seeing so many of my favorite people and places. At the same time, I was waking up in the wee-hours of each day, despite my 9-hour jetlag in the opposite direction, since I was processing plans, ideas, and potential driving routes for our day.
Since my trip, I have been practicing this “mind melt” throughout the day and see that the healing effects are great even when we are at home. It helps me prioritize what I need to do throughout my day, feel more energetic, and more focused with each task. I realize that I have written about the power of meditation many times before, but this week it again proved itself valuable.
