Tune in for another inspiring story from our California Roadshow! As we traveled down the California coast, we found ourselves in Los Angeles, a busy and crowded city with beautiful streets and even kinder people. The city was a little overwhelming upon arrival but as we immediately saw, it came with lots of opportunities.

Is it any surprise that Los Angeles is a place where yoga lifestyle is booming? Everywhere we drove, we were distracted by the diversity of different yoga studios and even cooler events happening seemingly around the clock . It’s no surprise that yoga is so popular here, considering how beneficial yoga is for our health and mind. But at each of our meeting with our supporters and partners — it was about more than simply yoga. Each meeting came with a personal story, an experience and enduring memory that changed these people’s lives for the better — and yoga was the tool, a door that opened it.

Among the many yoga influencers, business owners and yoga enthusiasts we met in LA, we want to introduce Cristofer Smith — yoganect’s supporter and his eco-friendly apparel GreenAppleActive.

Founders of yoganect: Rene & Elnura with the founder of Green Apple Active in Los Angeles

Cristofer has been working in the active apparel industry for over 20 years and has developed over 13 separate brands such as Urban Flex and Biza. But like many of the yoga business owners we met, his story was more than just about apparel. Cristofer is deeply concerned about pollution in our oceans. He knows that it is not the visible plastic bags that pollute our oceans, but the plastic garbage we do not see 99% of the time, the so-called microplastics. Where do microplastics come from? They come from production as well as cleaning any apparel that contains these elements.

Like many people we met, Cristofer wasn’t satisfied with waiting for change. In 2005, Cristofer founded Green Apple Active with the vision: to create eco-friendly, sustainable, vegan, and biodegradable apparel by using natural plant-based materials in the apparel itself.

‘The clothing you wear and the fabrics you place on your skin are just important as the food you put into your body.’

It is so obvious that when we workout, especially in hot environment, we sweat and our pores open. That is when we are most vulnerable & perceptive to chemicals in the fabrics we wear. So what you wear matters. The chemicals in our clothing can penetrate into our skin and be absorbed by our body when we sweat. Granted, we might not immediately think about this kind of information when casually choosing a pair of yoga pants for class, but it is important. Sustainability and yoga go together.

Green Apple Active revolutionizes the active apparel industry by choosing bamboo and Certified Organic Cotton to create their clothing. Why? It has numerous benefits. Bamboo’s organic nature benefits both the environment and the people who wear it. The fine fibers of the bamboo make the activewear soft, smooth, and completely comfortable for our skin.

Bamboo fabric is also hypoallergenic which makes it perfect for women with sensitive skin. Even better? It is antibacterial & has an excellent moisture absorbing qualities. So for all of those yogis who sweat during a particularly hot vinyasa session — this fabric is for you.

‘We are passionate about health and about the state of our planet.’

Yoga is more than just the asanas that make up each class and every yoga business owner knows that. Being helpful and thoughtful towards the environment is all a part of being a mindful yogi. It is beyond great that such visionary and sustainable businesses populate our platform. By connecting like-minded people, we’re excited to use our digital hangout to help yoga professionals network, discover new ventures and developments within the industry and meet such inspiring personalities such as Cristofer with such visionary projects.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories from yoganect’s California Roadshow.
