Transformational Summer Challenge: Day 2
Write a thank you letter to yourself
“Thank you…” Often we say these word only as a formality, sometimes we really feel our gratitude in relation to another person. But have you ever thanked yourself?
You may now be wondering what you should actually be thanking yourself for. And that’s part of the problem. Our society does not exactly encourage us to have a genuinely positive view of ourselves, let alone celebrate ourselves (unless someone else can profit from that), and that’s a huge shame. On the other hand, it’s not uncommon to put ourselves down and express self-criticism. Traumas, bad experiences and insecurities are passed on from generation to generation and result in something that hampers our self-development enormously: a lack of self-love.
So what do you have to thank yourself for? Everything. For handling the challenges life throws at you. For how selflessly you care for the people around you. You can thank your body for the way it supports you every day. You can be grateful for the fact that you try to work on yourself.
Your task today is to write a thank you letter to yourself. It doesn’t matter how long it is or if it is handwritten. The format is up to you — it’s the process that matters.
Take a moment for yourself where nothing will distract you. Sit back, take a deep breath in, and exhale. Tune into the feeling of gratitude towards yourself. Feel into the realisation that you are unique, irreplaceable and worthy of love. And then you can begin: “Thank you…”
When you’ve completed the task, share a photo of your letter in the comments (it can be folded if you don’t want to share the contents). Alternatively, just write “Completed.”
P.S. You can save the letter and read it again when you’re having a hard day or you are doubting yourself.
