Pay attention to the below information and get ready because the Seishun 18 goes on sale starting December 1st. When you purchase the ticket you can use the winter version anytime between December 10th and January 10th. There are some special features and rules to watch out for, but put this on your must buy list. You won’t regret it.

The Seishun 18 is a flexibile ticket but it does have fixed travel periods. In the winter and spring you can choose your days of travel over the course of a month and the summer Seishun covers 6 weeks of travel.

How does it work?

Seishun 18 provides five days of unlimited travel on any JR line in Japan for ¥11,850. It does not include shinkansen (bullet trains) and express trains — but covers most other lines from Hokkaido to Kyushu. You can use the ticket in many different ways. Travelers can enjoy unlimited travel across the entire country. The Seishun 18 also includes access to some ferries.

A great feature is that the five days do NOT have to be consecutive. Travel to a spot on your bucket list, stay awhile, and then make your return trip. One person can enjoy the Seishun 18 for five travel days, or you can share the ticket for use by up to five people.

In simple terms, the five days can all be used up all on one day by five different people. Or you can mix and match the days, and people, in any way that equals 5 days of travel.

You can purchase your Seishun 18 tickets at any JR ticket window. To use the ticket, show it to the attendant when you board the train for the first time. Solo travelers receive one stamp on the ticket, or the ticket will be stamped once for each person traveling in the group — if you want to share the ticket. You are then free to ride until midnight of the same day. The next day you will get another stamp on the ticket, and so it goes. Could not be easier.
