Voting: The Student Impact On Campus
By Erin
Campus is plastered in posters and banners, candidates are sharing their platforms during forums, and The Gateway is getting ready for their annual poster slam. Elections are underway, and campus is abuzz. But why should you care? The majority of you aren’t friends with any of the candidates, and aren’t involved in student governance… so why vote, right?
Well, here’s the impact that you (and those students who have come before you) have had on our campus:

As you can see, our student leaders and referendums can have more impact on you than you might think. There are no referendums or plebiscites appearing on the ballot this year, but the leaders we select will have a crucial role in creating change. Think about what matters most to you, educate yourself on the candidates’ platforms, and most importantly, get out and vote this year!
