A gateway is the perfect way to describe The Kings Mile; it is a rather beautiful and peaceful walk into Canterbury’s centre, with a rich and culturally unique environment. There is a strong sense of community here, especially with the vast social activities of The Jolly Sailor and Lily’s Bistro. I like how there is a sense of belonging here; everyone seems to play a part in helping to build a strong identity, which sets the gold standard for the rest of Canterbury.

The most striking feature is the history; Canterbury’s ancient homes and inns, proudly remain with the creeping modern world. The Cathedral peeps over the district, carefully surveying The Kings Mile, while new flocks of tourists and pupils from Kings School quickly move throughout the day. In many ways, it is like a little city of its own.

Since the establishment of BID and urban changes to the area, The Kings Mile became a vital component in the success of Canterbury; it helped give the city a new identity and birth of life, which was so desperately needed.

So many social and family events throughout the year to promote the independent businesses, especially trick-or-treating at Halloween, that I shall be dedicating an entire part to it.

The district does not aim just to improve itself, but the city as well. When it comes to district planning, The Kings Mile is the perfect model in terms of growth, community building and sustaining a local economy.

Due to how unique and special this district it, I shall be taking my time going into every little detail and aspects of The Kings Mile. Really want to dedicate time to the community and social events, too, so we won’t just be focusing on the independent businesses. Plus, I will be doing a charity spin-off week, which will include Shelter and Emmaus.

Now the introduction is out of the way, let us walk down The Kings Mile together and see what awaits us next week…
