This blog helps you, Youfirst users, to get to your emotion report with ease! You will learn about some basic mechanisms of Youfirst as well as TIPS how to invite your audience to watch your video with a webcam on.

To start with, let us review the purpose of Youfirst. Youfirst has been developed for video creators — for the first time, any video creator can use a powerful emotion AI to get a simple report for his/her video based on real reactions of a real audience. Imagine that you want to release a new video. Wouldn’t it be great to know who is the best audience for this video, which moment is the most engaging, and what is the potential weak point? Here is how you can actually get all this pretty quickly:

  1. Paste your video YouTube link to Youfirst website to create a new project
  2. Then, you obtain your youfirst link. Customize your welcome and ending message and add questions to you test (see the next section for details)
  3. Share your youfirst link with your fans to gather views that fuel the report (see the next section for TIPS)
  4. Wait for the views to grow. Depending on your audience, the report may display 4 categories of people according to age and sex (see the picture below). A minimum of 30 people is needed for each category of the report

When you reach the threshold of 30 people per category, Youfirst establishes a profile of your video based on your viewers’ facial expressions in each moment of the video. You can see if people felt anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness or surprise through time. The example below shows the exact Power moments (A,B,C,and D) when a national population felt medium disgust while watching a worms-eating video:

Customization

Youfirst offers a number of options to customize your audience experience:

Welcome and Ending Message

When setting up a new project you can add a message at the beginning of the video. Youfirst offers a default welcome text that focuses on the exclusivity and purpose:

Hi buddy, you are among the first 200 to check out my new video !!! Just follow the steps and let me know how you feel about it.

The ending message is by default a simple Thank you so much for participating. We encourage you to change the text according to your style of communication — your “signature” helps to make them feel comfortable and strengthens the relationship by staying consistent.

For those who believe that more motivation is needed, welcome and ending message can communicate a voucher or another form of a benefit.

Questionnaire

This is a new feature in Youfirst! After your fans watch the video, you may ask them to answer a few questions about what they have seen. Did they like the outfit you were wearing? Would they send it to a friend? What do they see as the main topic of the video? We recommend to think carefully and limit the number of questions (to 3) because:

A) it makes you think about what is really important

B) you do not bother your audience asking questions you do not know how to process

How to Invite Your Fans to the Pretest?

This is a new form of relationship with your audience — it requires trust and loyalty.

Exclusive access

Being part of a Youfirst prestest means, that the selected audience will see a new video before anyone else does. Only this audience of maximum 200 people has a chance to “advise” you. This requires a lot of trust and thus strengthens your relationship with your fans.

Privacy Concerns

Viewers are used to watch videos online, they are used to take picture and post them online or turn on their webcam for a video call. However, to turn on their webcam while watching a video might be a new experience for them. And “NEW” tends to bring concerns- how can they be sure that no one will use their emotion data on them or share a picture of their face? You might assure them that:

First of all, Youfirst data are anonymized. The identity of the viewers is fully disassociated with the data presented in a statistical report. It is impossible for anybody to identify or get access to viewer’s personal data except of the company responsible for the data processing. Read more in our Privacy Policy. If you don’t have time for that, here is a brief summary: the purpose of using the data is clearly stated in our privacy policy, the collection of data happens only with an explicit opt-in consent of the viewer, the data are being encrypted and sent via a secure connection afterwards.

Type of invitation

And now, that are the best channels to approach your audience? Sure, this depends on where your core fanship is — YouTube? Facebook? Instagram? But social media offer various types of content to engage with your audience. Let’s see which content is the best on which occasion.

1/ Video

If it is your first time sharing a Youfirst link with your audience, we advise you to make a short teaser or a preview by video and share it on social media. It gives you time to explain to your fans what Youfirst is and the purpose of pretesting. It is natural and engaging — but you know this better than us.

2/ Post

If you want to get your report with as little effort as possible, a post containing your Youfirst link is the best solution. Like this you can reach a lot of eyeballs mentioning just the most important things

  • privacy issues
  • a short explanation of the purpose

3/ Email

Emailing is another solution for sharing your Youfirst link and is recommended especially on 2 occasions:

  • to get specific people to reach your report. For example, you need only 4 more women under 35 years to complete your report to hit the 30 threshold and see the results. Personalize an email to 10 selected women in this category and ask them to participate.
  • you have an email database of loyal users

To conclude, the most important when sharing your youfirst link is to make your audience feel comfortable about being part of the test. Customize the message, take your time explaining the purpose of your test, and approach the data protection concerns directly. With the increasing competition in video content, pretesting offers a competitive advantage for creators and a new way to engage with their fans.

Use youfirst wisely and happily!

*Youfirst is an emotion AI platform which is able to recognize people’s facial expressions via camera and on this basis provide an unbiased moment-by-moment feedback to video creators.
