Restarting!: You Like (Clap in this case) I Run

This is an experiment to see if peer pressure can drive healthy outcomes

Week 0

Starting today (June 28, 2023), I am beginning a social media journey and experiment to improve my physical health thru social motivation. For a little context on myself, I am currently 6' 225 lbs (my heaviest I have ever been). I am constantly busy with work and family life. When the pandemic went into full swing, I let my exercise routines go due to finishing school and our first child. Lack of sleep (I had nights) and rushed meals made me feel too exhausted to commit to exercise. Throughout the last few years, I have been on and off with bouts of exercise. I remember hearing declarations to others of stated goals increases the likelihood of completing said goals. So here I am committing to running based on the support and likes of strangers. Even if it takes just a second to like (clap on Medium), please clap or comment to increase the reach. Clap multiple or hundreds of times if you are feeling generous.

The Clap to Mileage (in US) Running Formula

I will run the total milage a week trailing each article release and look to expand to other social media sites eventually. The claps to milage ratio will start as an exponent of 2 (see below).

Claps to Milage Needed Each Week

2 Claps — 1 Mile

4 Claps — 2 Miles

8 Claps — 3 Miles

16 Claps — 4 Miles

32 Claps — 5 Miles
