Today on International Women’s Day #IWD2018, we are proudly shining a light on some of the work from the girls who have participated in the Young Change Agents program in the last 2.5 years. As part of the Australian Government’s Women In STEM and Entrepreneurship (WISE) program, Young Change Agents are working with 1200 girls across NSW, QLD and the NT. With our focus being social entrepreneurship, students are both building enterprise initiatives with social impact at its heart and building skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity — highly valued skills for the jobs of the future.

Here is just a snapshot of the wonderful social enterprise initiatives these girls are working on:

From Rockhampton, the team Barriers are producing gender neutral everyday products; helping break gender stereotypes along with the higher price tag that is often associated with the female version of like products.

In Sydney, Stage 1 are working on picture books for children to break gender stereotypes. By doing so, they want to teach young kids that they can be anything.

On the Gold Coast are team IHAPPI who want to stamp out bullying on social media by creating an app which blocks bullying messages and notifies a parent/guardian.

The Bloody Good Group from our Sydney Youth Incubator (YINC) are looking at ways to help provide information to young girls who are about to or have just started their period.

There are so many more and we look forward to unveiling these on our new showcase website which will launch in May!
