How to Blog
A few quick tips for starting your own blog in 2015
It seems like just about everyone has a blog these days, even most companies have their own blog. This can be a quite powerful tool for you and your brand.. If done correctly.
Where?
First you need to start your blog on the best platform possible, what are the options? Medium is a great one, of course. But should you really start on a new platform where you will have to get people to follow you? Or start on where people already know where to find you, like your website? It makes much more sense to start where you already have peoples eyes, so usually your website is the best place to start blogging. If you don’t have a place to host a blog already, feel free to start up your own website or even Medium blog. The best part about hosting your blog on your own personal website is that you have complete control over everything, thats something standard social media will never be able to offer you in this context.
Pro tip: But don’t be afraid to cross post your articles, I usually share mine on my own website, Medium and LinkedIn.
Quality and Quantity
You know the saying, “quality over quantity,” personally I think thats bullshit. Why not do both? A daily blog post is an incredibly great and strong strategy for your blog, getting daily readers to become fans of you, they will gladly share your content on social media. Never half ass, and always do your best work. (In all things.)
Share, Share, Share
Share your articles on Twitter, Facebook, wherever, just share it. You can’t expect to get views just by hitting publish, you need to bring people in yourself. A great way to do this when you’re just starting out is by emailing/messaging some of your friends and family, explaining your new blog and including a link to your first article so they can check it out. These people are much more likely to share your content, since they know you personally. Also, include some share buttons into your website, even though most people dont actually use them, statistics show that just by having the buttons there, you are more likely to have your article shared.
