Psychedelics shown to produce a “higher” state of consciousness

A research study showed that psychedelics (specifically psilocybin, ketamine, and LSD) all produced an increase in neural signal diversity (a measure of the complexity of brain activity) when compared to a base “awake and aware” state. This demonstrates that the brain actually exhibits a different level of consciousness while on psychedelics.
