Recently, Apple geared people for the holidays with their keynote that updated the rest of their product lines beyond the 5s. Normally, this event would just be another tech company showing off new gadgets but the approach taken by the company, and the upgrades themselves, were so specifically geared towards the artistic community that it is impossible to be any kind of artist and not be excited for what the company has in store for consumers.

Starting with the Mac Pro, there is a clear push towards artistry. With an astonishing six of Apple’s “Thunderbolt” ports and the latest in bleeding edge graphics technology and processing power, the Mac Pro is a machine that any gamer would drool over. However, since Macs are not known for gaming, the device immediately screams to artists from all walks of life. Furthermore, the device was introduced, and still vouched by, artists such as photographers Duncan Davidson and Tom McGoverner and Grammy-winning sound engineer Matt Shane. At $3,000 this definitely isn’t going to be purchased by a budding photographer or muscian in college, but the pros love it and its portability and power have made an impression on leaders in the artistic industry that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

For the rest of us, there is the new Macbook. Though not as powerful as the Mac Pro, the new generation of laptops show this step towards artist empowerment as well. With a laptop that is almost synonymous with dance music and showing up in more concert photos than anybody can count, Macbooks are undoubtedly the DJ’s choice equipment. So what upgrades did that line of computers get? For starters, their lighter and yet somehow sturdier. By removing the CD drive, the standard Macbook is now as thin and light as any netbook you can imagine and yet with the shell it has it doesn’t feel like you’re holding a glorified floppy disk while still enjoying the benefit of being a DJ and not having to carry a seven pound device everywhere you go in a packed club. You won’t miss the CD drive though, with two Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.0 drives, an HDMI port, and an SD card reader, you’ll still be able to put your data on there and connect with your software. The real upgrade though comes in the processor, with the new line of Haswell processors, Apple has turned the Macbook into a deadly weapon. With these processors, the Macbook has the latest in processing power while at the same time increasing the battery life of their laptops for on the go editing and creating. These are the same processors that allow the Macbook Air to have a battery life of 11 hours, coming down to a rather impressive 7 hours for the Macbook Pro.

With these new updates, artists everywhere will undoubtedly be pleased and Apple has solidified its position as the computer of choice for those who seek to create. Whether it be music, photography, or video. The Mac Pro will go on sale in December and the Macbook Pro is available now from your local Apple retailer
