Neitzsche’s “On the Geneology of Morality” talks about lambs vs. birds of preys. Basically, he talks about how the birds of prey take away the lambs to kill and feast on them. The lambs then think that the birds of prey are evil because the birds take away the lambs just to kill them. The birds actually have to do this to survive, but the lambs do not understand and only keep thinking they are evil. Along with that, the lambs believe that they are good because they are opposite to the birds of prey. On the other hand, the birds of prey talk about how they “do not bear a grudge on these good lambs, in fact we love them, nothing is tastier than tender lamb.” Although the birds of prey talk about how they love the lambs, they more so say it in a way where the lambs are just a piece of meat, a treat. That is all they are to them, just meat. These two different animals think of each other differently and negatively and because they are a group of animals, these two groups would all think the same things about the other group. All lambs will think birds are evil, while the birds of prey will see lambs as just a piece of meat.

To expand on the ideas of Neitzsche, we can relate this to gender “expectation” between male and females. There is the mindset that women belong in the kitchen, take care of the children, and clean the house. Where as for men, they take charge of the family, provide for the family, and are stronger than women. These “expectations” can be related to Neitzshe’s ideas by thinking as the women as the lambs, and the men as the birds of prey. Bear with me. Women were thought to be the emotional ones, the ones that believe in true love, respect, and talking about feelings. Men are the ones to be thought of as just wanting sex, not talking about feelings, and say “game over” after getting married. This could be because of articles like this. In this article they explain that men are more likely to leave women who have developed breast cancer rather than women leaving men with cancer. It is things like this that would make women think that he only wanted sex and after she could not have sex with him, he leaves her to find another women. This could leave the women thinking like the lambs, they dislike the men (birds of prey) because they are evil and take advantage of their kind. The men could think like the birds of prey, thinking that they love them because they are a good “piece of meat”. Then these ideas past through their groups causing pictures like the ones above to be made. Although things are not like this everywhere.

In Hawaii, there are men who appreciate certain feminine characteristics. They try to engage in women’s work, dress, and a big one is dance. This does not make them what we would call a homosexual. A man in Hawaii can be mahu for a moment of the day and be a man for the rest of the day and no one would question it, no one believes he is a homosexual either. They are just trying to be themselves and express. This is perfectly fine over there, there are beauty pageants for mahu and people will go to support their friends, family, and even strangers. It may sound weird to some people over here, but back in Tahiti and Hawaii, this is perfectly normal, which is perfectly fine.

Lastly, people of Sambia and people of the Dominican Republic both have children who experience gevedoces, where a boy who is born with what looks like a female vagina grows a penis at around the age of 12 (puberty). This is the result of some inbreeding which cause a mutation where 5-alpha reducatase is not made and therefore the penis and everything else cannot develop until the boy starts making testosterone. Until then, these children are raised as girls and then when become a man are treated as men, well depends from where. In Sambi, males born like this are believed to be failed men. While in the Dominican Republic, there is a celebration and this is perfectly fine with everyone there. They accept the change in the child and do not think more of that because the child is happy.

There are different places in the world who accept different things about men and women, but more importantly there are places who accept people who are in the middle of both genders and I think people should learn from this, to keep an open mind, and overall just accept people for who they are, not for what they are.
