Private Equals Public
Have you ever thought of a world where everyone can make their own rules? This place would be chaotic and therefore there would be no signs of community. However, let us think smaller. Imagine the law making it acceptable for a male to hit a female in a vehicle and not in public. This will not be successful because it is hurting the female. People will not want to drive anymore because of this ridiculous new law. Surprisingly, some individuals will follow this law. This new law would not keep its structure because many people will not follow this. Structure is good because it keeps things balanced and in order. Genders should be treated equally just like the private and public property. Some individuals do not have interest in making ideas the same. They have inequality engraved in their minds and want to be powerful. Females and Males are not equal yet, but I feel it will happen. Females have always been the underdog and it is time to get respected.
Daryush Valizadeh, also known as Roosh Valizadeh is known for his writings of women hatred. He is a leader of a movement that supports the masculinity of men. His latest article that got a lot of attention was the promotion of rape. He believes that women are the blame for rape. Roosh said once at a conference “If the government was not completely holding the hand of adult women every step of the way and telling them that nothing you can do wrong, maybe they would do a little bit of a better job not incapacitating themselves with alcohol and drugs and meeting random guys on the internet that they do not know and going to his house to watch Netflix.” He thinks the government is making women believe that they are protected from rape. In reality, women are never fully protected by the government. Roosh states “I thought about this problem and am sure I have the solution: make rape legal if done on private property. I propose that we make the violent taking of a woman not punishable by law when done off public grounds.” Rape is never acceptable and this solution is giving rapists’ power. A woman should not have to be cautious when going into a man’s house. Roosh wants to help women be more cautious of rape. Most importantly he wants to protect men from getting sentenced for rape.
Judith Butlers work “Antigone’s Claim” is about a woman named Antigone who disobeys her father by burying her brother when she was not supposed to. Her father had her killed because show broke the law. Butler says “She is outside the terms of the polis, but she is, as it were, an outside without which the polis could not be.” This quote can be translated using the Roosh story. In other words it can mean that Roosh believes that private property can have its own sets of rules, however it will not work. I agree with this because people will make illegal laws legal in their households and this will start many conflicts that can hurt the community. Roosh was supposed to have a meeting in Toronto about his movement, but decided to cancel it because of threats. He felt that he needed to protect the men from the female protestors. Overall, in this situation I thought he was scared because of the threats he has received by women. In Antigone’s Claim there were private property rules that were meant to be broken. Roosh is a sexist man that wants men to be the powerful ones. This way of thinking is not humane and there needs to be something done about it. Private property and public property needs to follow the same rules. As a society we must follow this because this is how we stay structured and ordered.
