WORK

--

As big changes approach, we sometimes become frozen with indecision. Should we stay where we feel safe and secure or should we acknowledge that by doing so we hold ourselves back, that the change itself is what will allow us to thrive?

Many times in my life I have chosen to take the backward rather than the forward step — especially when it came to my work. I’ve gone back to two jobs I once quit — though being there never again felt the same. Giving in to the craving for your former security, especially in a time of need . . . seeing people you once officially said goodbye to . . . it’s always awkward and sometimes even a bit depressing.

I keep repeating the quote below as a mantra in my head and I find it very much helps me move forward. I really don’t want to move backward for any reason so moving forward has to be my direction of travel.

LIFE

It happens when we plan our holiday traditions, clean spaces for guests to arrive, or prepare our gardens for the spring: the excitement begins to build. In fact, some say that it’s not the actual event, the arrival of someone or something special that brings us the most pleasure, but the anticipation and excitement leading up to it instead.

Looking forward gives us room to imagine and to wonder. However, when the anticipated event finally does arrive, it’s important that we notice that, too — that in that moment we let go of our anxieties and expectations and just enjoy.

INSPIRATION

“Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.”

― Henry David Thoreau

TAKE ACTION

What are you preparing for right now and how are you going about it? Is there something special happening in the coming weeks or months that you just can’t wait to experience?
