CHART-AHLEI Scholarship Winner Wants to See the World

Katrina Tahimik is the recipient of this year’s CHART and AHLEI scholarship for hospitality management students. Katrina is a sophomore at Guam Community College, where she is a 4.0 student majoring in Tourism and Travel Management.
In high school, she participated in AHLEI’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP), competing with a team that came in second place in the 2015 HTMP International Competition. She passed both her Year 1 and 2 HTMP exams with honors and earned the Certified Hospitality and Tourism Management Professional designation. She was also president of her school’s Tourism Awareness Group. These activities taught her the value of teamwork and perseverance and confirmed her desire to pursue a career in hospitality.
Last year, Katrina won AHLEF’s Incoming Freshman Scholarship, and earlier this year, took first place in AHLEF’s “Brightest Star” Video Testimonial Contest. After she completes her college coursework, Katrina would like to work as a front desk agent at a hotel, then work as a flight attendant, traveling the world, learning about diverse cultures and countries, before returning to the world of hotels. Eventually, she sees herself managing a property and sharing her passion for hospitality with others.
