What is Clubhouse, the app that has exploded over the past months?

Clubhouse is an audio-chat social networking app. Clubhouse was developed by Alpha Exploration Co. and was launched on IOS in April 2020. Clubhouse is currently the #5 social networking app on the Apple App Store.

In the app, users can participate in conversations by joining audio calls in virtual rooms. The virtual rooms can range from discussions about sports to conversations about business and entrepreneurship and much more. Users of the app have said that Clubhouse feels different than other forms of social media because interactions on the app are more intimate and are the closest thing to real-life interactions due to the audio-chat format.

Clubhouse has continued to grow in popularity and value. In December 2020, Clubhouse was valued at nearly $100 million, but on January 21, 2021, the valuation of the app reached $1 billion. In December 2020, there were six hundred registered Clubhouse users, but there are now 6 million registered users. What caused this massive increase?

Clubhouse has become very popular because of the inclusivity of the app. Clubhouse is still in beta, so the app is invite-only. Anyone who wants to join Clubhous requires an invitation from someone who is already a member of the app. The appeal of the app has also increased with the influx of celebrities joining the app like rappers Drake and 21 Savage. The most important celebrity influence has been Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, joining the app. After Elon Musk’s interview on Clubhouse on January 31, 2021, there was a huge increase in users, especially from countries like Germany and China. A large percentage of new Clubhouse members joined after January 28, 2021.

Clubhouse continues to grow at a large rate. The developers are also working on a version of Clubhouse for Android.
