One of the contemporary challenges urban planners face is how to design living environments which cater to the needs, values, and interests of a diversity of urban residents. This includes younger demographic groups, whose needs, values and interests are often less mapped, understood, and also less represented in formal planning and governance processes.

On May 19th we are testing how sound and urban sounscapes can be used to support planners in understanding the preferences of younger age groups, and integrating them in their work. This is done through a well-established method known as a soundwalk. During the soundwalk we will listen to and capture sounds in selected places in the centre of Huddinge. Together we will then discuss what constitutes urban soundscapes and how to shape and integrate them in place-making and spatial planning.

When? 19 May, 15–17.
Where? Huddinge Centrum (exact location will be shared shortly)
Registration (required): https://www.worldacademicforum.se/event-item/discovering-by-listening-2/

The event is a collaboration between researchers from Södertörns Högskola & KTH, led by Roberto Bresin. It is also part of the program at the World Academic Forum 2022. Find out more and see the entire program here.
