LET US TELL YOU ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Why does this project take place?

With this project we would like to equip young people with skills which allow them to see the peaceful change they can bring to their society. There is a risk that conflicts around can deepen and escalate, but there is also hope that young people can bring constructive contribution to working with conflicts. Planning reactions to conflicts is a delicate task, and this is why we need training on sensitive approaches to conflict transformation and empowerment on how to be community leaders bringing peaceful coexistence. As young people and youth workers we want to be aware of existing conflicts and capable of dealing with them to contribute to conflict management and transformation.

AIM

We aim to equip 28 youth workers with competences in conflict transformation and active citizenship to enable them to act as community leaders by taking action towards peaceful coexistence in their local realities.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the project are:

  • to develop participants understanding of the nature of conflict and approaches on working towards sustainable positive peace;
  • to strengthen participants` critical reflection about their social realities and challenges to human rights by learning about the conflict analysis tools;
  • to map consequences of conflicts in local realities on the lives of young people on the personal and societal level;
  • to reflect and develop skills on active citizenship and youth engagement, such as leadership, political participation, raising awareness on existing conflicts and dialogue facilitation;
  • to provide participants with practical tools on nonviolent conflict transformation to be used in their local youth work, in particular with nonviolent communication, conflict management, active listening and empathy practice;
  • to ensure planning of at least 6 follow-up actions in which participants will act as peaceful leaders of transforming conflicts in their communities;
  • to offer participants space for their sustainable engagement as community leaders within the international network of peacebuilders and their learning tools (inter alia through e-learning on conflict transformation)

HOW WE WORK

The training courses will be based on the principles of non-formal education.

We will implement the basic elements of the non-formal education, such as the education being voluntary, organized with educational objectives, participatory and learner-centered, about learning life skills and preparing for active citizenship, based on involving both individual and group learning with a collective approach, holistic and process-oriented, as well as based on experience and action (we will plan the follow-up activities) and starts from the needs of the participants.

Basically is a peer-to-peer (you teach & learn from others) approach :)

COSTS

We believe in one thing, the power of peace education and the right for all to have an opportunity. That is why, thanks to the ERASMUS+ scheme, we are able to provide this training for you for FREE.

We will be able to reimburse you for your travel to the venue at Pervolia, Larnaca with a limit of:

WHO ARE WE

HADE

Hade is a multi communal youth-led initiative for peace activism with a mission to promote the urgency of avoiding permanent partition of Cyprus. This initiative was created as a result of online cooperation of young people to address an urgent demand to open the checkpoints of Cyprus that were closed for more than 11 months due to the pandemic. Since the opening of the checkpoints, it has been organising events for youth-led grassroots reconciliation and social change in Cyprus. It has been developing peacebuilding workshops based on non-formal education to raise awareness about the challenges faced by different minority groups living in Cyprus, managing language exchange classes of Greek and Turkish and other initiatives for facilitating intercommunal interaction and discussion.
