Hall of fame by The Script, will.i.am.

It has become a natural habit for a lot of us to listen to music. Whether you listen to songs blasting on large speakers or the random songs that play on the radio or have your earphones plugged in and listen to the specific playlist you just made, we’re all listening to the beautiful melodies, soothing voices, and inspiring raps by all the amazingly talented artists out there.

Listening to music wasn’t a big deal to me when I was a young girl growing up. It meant a fun way to pass my time and get hyped up, that’s it. I did not give any thought to the lyrics, beats, or the way it made me feel at all, or maybe I just wasn’t aware of it.

It goes all the way back to October of 2016. I was at a NCC camp.

  • The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities., with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline, and Adventure Training. The NCC is open to all regular students of schools and colleges on a voluntary basis.

I had joined NCC in my 8th standard. It wasn’t something I wanted to do initially but eventually ended up participating in with the goal to fulfill my elder sister’s big dream of going to RDC, which she sadly didn’t accomplish. The next year, I was given the opportunity to go to the selection camps for RDC 2017.

The Annual Republic Day Camp (RDC) is held at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt every year from 01 Jan to 29 Jan. RDC(REPUBLIC DAY CAMP) is the most glorious camp for cadets in NCC. In-fact, representing at NATIONAL level itself gives you enough power & confidence. But it is a fact that Precious things are always difficult to achieve. You must have to put your heart & soul , and burn yourself towards your goal, only then the Glittering Gold will come out.

The cadets are selected through a tough selection process. The cadets attending the camp participate in a number of activities like cultural, National Integration Awareness Programme and Institutional Training Competitions. The camp is visited by a large number of dignitaries including the Vice President of India, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief Minister of Delhi and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The Aim of the Republic Day Camp is to enhance the self confidence of cadets, deepen their value systems and provide an exposure to the rich culture and traditions of our nation. Projection of cherished ideals and capabilities of the cadets of the NCC is intrinsic. The camp portrays a reflection of “Mini India”. The selection for RDC starts as early as August or sometimes even earlier which takes place in various stages.

Selection process of RDC is quite tough. And it varies from directorate to directorate or depends on the contingent commander who is leading the RD camp, (a colonel rank).

In order to get selected as the junior wing best cadet, which had now turned into my dream, I had to undergo ten camps of 10 days each with rigorous training and selection procedures. Going into the first camp I was just excited and not determined. However, as the camps went by and I kept getting past each stage a certain fire was ignited within me. It started getting harder and harder, but my determination was getting stronger too.

The day it happened:

There were just two more camps for me to get to reach my goal of going to RDC 2017. That’s when it happened. I was on the verge of giving up. I was being rejected from every single activity one by one. I was on the verge of giving up. I still remember that moment clearly, it was almost 2 a.m and I was sitting in the corner of our barrack, polishing my boots for the morning drill. I had my earphones in my ears and random songs were playing. A song called “Hall of fame” started playing. I got this rush of energy. My mind was paying attention to the lyrics and every word was like a smack on my face for even thinking about quitting. Something magical came over my mind. All the thoughts of vain vanished. I was full of determination and motivation. All I could think of was “I am getting this and am ready to do whatever it takes.” For the next few days I listened to that song on repeat whenever I got the time. Ever since that day, I have listened to that song anytime a negative thought tries to pull me down.

A verse from that song.

It began with that song but now I am able to use the power of songs to my advantage. There are a number of songs that make me feel so positive. The song “Hall of fame” gives me all the inspiration and motivation I need and tells me I can do anything in this world.

Here are a few other songs that helped me get over my insecurities, self doubts, sad thoughts and any negativity:

  • Scars to your beautiful — Alessia Cara.

  • Roar- Katy Perry
