EcoScout Week 2: Who let the doggos out, they need structure! 🐶

Creating a startup is pretty chaotic and this week was no exception. We spoke to customers, built an MVP and continued to pivot our business model.

But we had no structure, no way to measure performance or to make sure our activities were productive.

Our biggest learning from this week was that we need structure.

“Plan your work and work your plan” — Napoleon Hill

Here’s how we are planning now:

  • Weekly stand-up meetings for accountability
  • Weekly road-maps
  • Set office hours

Here’s what we did this week:

  • Creating an MVP for a carbon footprint calculator.
  • Creating a Notion workspace for all our files (my new favourite tool, sign-up here for free credit)
  • Creating a landing page in 2-hours after we met Izzy Lyons, a journalist from The Telegraph.
  • Creating an accelerator application to refine the business model.
  • Creating a list of startup assumptions to prioritise our road-map for the next 5-weeks.
  • Creating a document dealing with company equity, values and decision-making.
  • Creating an excel document for monthly burn, startup runway and personal finances
  • Collecting user feedback at the Extinction Rebellion protests.
  • Getting obsessed with the pool table at our coworking space.

What’s happening next week?

Next week, we are learning how to build a product people want to use. We’re talking to customers, looking at the products in the market and drafting wireframes.

Just like the good doggos in our WeWork, we are following our nose to solve the right problems.

Our roadmap next week

  • Create a ‘Lean Canvas’, a business model for startups
  • Create a ‘Market Analysis’ report exploring competitors and unsolved problems
  • Create a ‘User Experience’ report looking at the design of successful apps solving similar problems.
  • Create ‘Customer Segmentation & User Profiles’, researching the customers we are building EcoScout to serve.
  • Create a ‘Brand Bible & Style Guide Research’ report, analysis of great design by competitors serving similar audiences.#
  • Watch Youtube videos about cue handling to improve pool performance
  • Create wireframes for the first version of EcoScout
  • Talking to customers to build out the customer segmentation & user profiles.
