Basic Combos

The archetype’s breadwinners. These combos provide the most value with the least amount of answers.

Turn 1 Darklord Setup: the best Turn 1 setup available for the archetype. Variations depend on what cards you draw, but the most important thing is that all the cards are where they belong.

1. Activate Darklord Ixchel by discarding a Darklord boss monster other than Darklord Desire or Morningstar.¹

2. Use Darklord Contact to special summon Darklord Ixchel.

a. If you don’t have Darklord Contact in hand, use Banishment of the Darklords to search for Darklord Contact.

3. Use Darklord Ixchel’s ability to apply Darklord Contact’s effect on the discarded Darklord — preferably Darklord Nasten

4. Normal Summon Darklord Ukoback, send to the graveyard:

a. Banishment of the Darklords: If you are setting up for a search during your opponent’s turn such as Darklord Tezcatlipoca to block attacks.

b. The Sanctified Darklord: If you see yourself using up to three monster effect negations, expect a Cosmic Cyclone, or want to be extra careful for a short period over more value in the long run.

5. Use Banishment of the Darklords or apply Banishment of the Darklords in the graveyard (used to search Darklord Contact) to search for The Sanctified Darklord.

6. Set one The Sanctified Darklord. Its main target on your field should be Darklord Ukoback.

a. Prepare to activate the other Darklord’s ability to apply Banishment of the Darklords to draw Darklord Tezcatlipoca, Darklord Ixchel, or any other card in your foreseeable play.

b. The trick is choosing to activate it your turn or their turn. Do you draw Darklord Tezcatlipoca early your turn but show them? Or do you wait until next turn but use up one of the Darklords to block it? The answer will depend on the circumstances.

Turn 2 Darklord OTK: the OTK option for Darklords, incorporating Darklord Desire’s safe graveyard removal.

1. Activate Darklord Ixchel by discarding Darklord Superbia

2. Use Darklord Contact to special summon Darklord Superbia. Use Darklord Superbia’s effect to special summon Darklord Ixchel.

a. If you don’t have Darklord Contact in hand, use Banishment of the Darklords to search for Darklord Contact.

3. Activate Darklord Ixchel’s effect to apply Banishment’s effect to search for Darklord Darklord Desire

4. Tribute summon Darklord Desire using Darklord Superbia.

5. Activate Darklord Desire’s effect to remove the main enemy monster

6. Use Beatdown for an all out attack with Darklord Desire and Darklord Ixchel

Advanced Combos

In the archetype, these combos aren’t necessarily more advanced or more powerful. They are advanced because they allow you to make steady plays given limitations in your hand or board. Expect tougher decision-making when making these plays.

Darklord Superbia Defense: used when extending the play all the way to Darklord Desire is not possible and you need to resort to defense.

1. Activate Darklord Ixchel by discarding Darklord Superbia

2. Use Darklord Contact to special summon Darklord Superbia. Use Darklord Superbia’s effect to special summon Darklord Ixchel in defense position.

a. If you don’t have Darklord Contact in hand, use Banishment of the Darklords to search for Darklord Contact.

4. Set The Sanctified Darklord

a. You will need The Sanctified Darklord on-hand if you plan

Nasten Pump: used when needing to get Darklord Superbia into the grave without Darklord Ixchel or Darklord Ukoback.

1. Special Summon Darklord Nasten by discarding one Darklord Superbia and one other Darklord card. If there are no other Darklord monsters in the graveyard, discard Darklord Tezcatlipoca, Darklord Ixchel, or Darklord Ukoback in that order.²

2. Use Darklord Contact to special summon the discarded Darklord monster — preferably Darklord Tezcatlipoca.

a. If you don’t have Darklord Contact in hand, use Banishment of the Darklords to search for Darklord Contact.

3. Set The Sanctified Darklord

Darklord Tezcatlipoca Invulnerability: used to sneak in a protection from card destruction for one of your monsters.

1. Activate one Darklord monster to apply a Banishment from the graveyard and search Darklord Tezcatlipoca to the hand

2. Discard Darklord Tezcatlipoca to save a Darklord monster, turning defense monsters into an invulnerable wall.

Synergy

  • Darklord LP monsters, Contact, and Darklord Ukoback: can be used to cycle cards into the graveyard for Darklord LP monsters to activate, giving you access to timely banishments or any other useful setup.
  • Darklord Ukoback and The Sanctified Darklord: The Sanctified Darklord can be used to remove a weak atk position monster left out of the field. The only monster fitting this description is Darklord Ukoback.
  • Darklord Desire and “destroyed by battle or card effect” Effect Monsters: Darklord Desire send cards to the graveyard without destruction, bypassing conditions for cards like Silent Magician and Desperado Barrel Dragon.
  • Darklord Tezcatlipoca’s effect can provide invulnerability for one or more monsters at the same time. This can prevent board clears like Desperado Barrel Dragon’s coin toss.

Tips:

· The Sanctified Darklord will go so far as the Battle Phase. While removing Darklord Ukoback will allow your opponents to shift targets, it is well worth applying The Sanctified Darklord to recover Life Points.

· Use The Sanctified Darklord or apply its effect on Fortune Lady Every before the Standby Phase of your opponents to negate her level up and more importantly her banish.

  1. Darklord Desire and Darklord Morningstar have summoning conditions that lock them in the GY.
  2. Remember, you can’t discard Darklord Nasten to even Darklord Contact or apply the effect to another Darklord Nasten. Each Darklord can only be summoned once per turn due to the conflicting special summoning conditions between cards.
