Pizza (pronounced as pittsa) is more than a meal, it is a culture. It originates from Italy, the home of pasta, and over the years has seen many variations from the original cheese and tomato sauce topping. People around the world have grown to like it and have let their imaginations go wild when it comes to it’s preparation. One of the most popular toppings in the world is pepperoni but there are stranger toppings we think might interest you:

1. Weird Toppings

If you thought pineapples were weird welcome to Brazil; apparently green peas are a popular pizza topping. yes, you heard that right — green peas. That’s not even half of it, they also like quail eggs, carrots, and beets!

Moving away from Brazil we will head to Australia where they have weird meat toppings. Forget the popular pepperoni or bacon, in Australia the Aussies love Kangaroo, crocodile and emu meat topped on their pizza. Imagine walking into a Nairobi pizza house and asking for Kangaroo, they’d think you’ve lost your mind.

2. Pizza in a jar

What comes in a jar? Peanuts? Peanut butter? Jam maybe? Now imagine pizza in a jar. Forget the traditional cardboard box with a lid that when open lets out that distinct aroma of freshly baked dough and melted cheese — this one comes in a jar. This might not be a good idea if you’re really hungry and the lid is stuck — you know how jars tend to often get stuck? How do you even begin to eat it? A spoon maybe? Well let’s see if this is a trend we will soon see in our pizza houses.

3. The lollipop

The name itself is self explanatory. Picture your doughy treat on a lollipop. How many would it take to get you full though?

4. Pizza fries

Well, here forget the dough, jump straight into the cheese and toppings on a bed of crispy golden brown french fries. I think this might be a personal favorite what do you think?

5. 20 Million shilling Pizza

Roughly how much would you spend on a pizza, maybe Ksh 2000? Well multiply that by 10, 000. That’s 10, 000 pizzas you could have ordered probably over your life time and have it spill over so that your kids to enjoy a lifetime of baked goodness.

So what exactly goes into it? Well, only the most expensive ingredients you could ever find on earth. What would these be? Well, Italian white Alba truffles, winter black truffles from Périgord, Mongra saffron from Kashmir, French foie gras from Gascony, Iranian Almas and Beluga caviar soaked in Dom Pérignon champagne, Japanese matsutake mushrooms and of course, 2 ounces of edible gold leaves. The ingredients alone total to $125,000.
