Our Workout Tracking App Ignite Is Now Available for Free

As of today Ignite -our iOS workout tracking app- no longer requires any purchases to unlock its full potential. In other words; it’s available for FREE (cue Oprah and you get one, and you get one gif).

Ignite is celebrating its fourth birthday this summer. What we loved about this project is that almost anyone on the Yummygum team has once worked on design for Ignite. And while we loved taking on each single UX & UI challenge (trust me, designing a red themed workout app *is* pretty challenging) it’s time for us to focus on creating and releasing new ideas and tools.

How it started

About four years ago we came up with the idea for Ignite. Just like how many app ideas are born there were already plenty of apps that sort of did the same but the UX just didn’t feel right. Each app that was out there was either a glorified note pad or it forced a workout program onto its users. What we wanted to create was an app that would let you focus on one ‘set’ a time and would visually stand out.

This resulted in a red themed app that was given the cold shoulder by some yet luckily loved by others. Facing fierce competition (and market saturation) in the realm of workout, body building and fitness apps of which some backed or created by huge brands with marketing budgets, over 140K people viewed the app in the App Store and had almost 10K downloads. On that note; we can’t thank everyone who’s bought the additional IAP pack(s)! You’re the real MVPs!

We knew from the get-go this was going to be an app that wouldn’t be for every single person who’s ever set foot in a gym. And we’re more than okay with that and the numbers, considering the fact we had one single ‘marketing’ (dr. Evil air quotation marks) push that probably reached mostly a tech and design crowd.

Although Ignite wasn’t the first iOS app we had worked on, it did push us to our limits, in a good way. We set the bar incredibly high in terms of User Experience, animations, and a User Interface that was a little ‘out there’ yet respected the iOS guidelines where needed. And for me personally it’s been my go-to app to track workouts for years. I’ll keep firing up Ignite (pun intented) for every gym session ⚡️!

Now is the time to try Ignite

We’re very excited about our decision to make Ignite available. One of the reasons why is because we would sincerely love to see more people try and use the app for free rather than just a smaller crowd. Whether you never heard of Ignite before, or haven’t tried it because of the IAPs, now is the time to download it and give it (another) try!

Calling on developers

What does this mean for future development of Ignite? Basically it means it won’t be under active development. But you could make a change, because we still have tons of ideas for improvement and new features. Are you an iOS dev who would like to help make Ignite better together while keeping it available for free and AIP-less? Don’t hesitate to reach out!
