Cooking Tree

Abigail Aubuchon, senior: Cooking Tree is an ASMR baking channel that started back in 2015 and currently has 4.4 million subscribers. They are generally well known for making pastries, cookies, cakes, and other confectionary that are visually beautiful to look at all while not even saying one word. Many followers enjoy how calming the videos are, and watching them create a beautiful baked good while listening to nothing but them measuring, mixing, baking, and assembling these beautiful baked goods.

The great news for bakers is that most of these videos are easy to follow, with the ingredients and a more detailed recipe right in the description. The recipes are written using the metric system, however, so it would be best to look into conversions or getting a weight before. For new viewers, I would recommend starting with Cooking Tree’s Swedish Princess Cake, which shows both their baking and decorating skills. Pro tip: turn on your subtitles for each video as well for updates on recipes and ingredients.

New Rockstars

Christopher Davis, senior: New Rockstars is a YouTube channel with over 3.61 million subscribers. They have made over 2.1 thousand videos, with 1.37 million views since their channel started in 2011. Filup Molina founded NewRockstars in 2015 after switching from doing interviews of new-media creators. A video about Fast and Furious 7 cashed in over 9 million views, so they started focusing on big Hollywood movies and shows.

Erik Voss is their Programming director and fulfills the hosting duties. The rest of the crew includes MT, Tommy Bechtold, Marina Mastros, and Jessica Clemons. Their content consists of breakdowns, theories, and reactions. They do in depth breakdowns on MCU, DC, Star Wars, Pixar, and other trendy titles and trailers. Erik Voss does most of these, and reveals hidden Easter eggs, theories, and other details that the average viewer would not notice on their first watch through. MT does a lot of crazy theory videos that speculate about popular franchises that have stuff coming out, such as Marvel and Star Wars.

Markiplier

Peyton Delay, junior: Markiplier, or Mark Edward Fischbach, is a YouTuber whose content revolves around video games, other miscellaneous vlogs or skits, and even interactive comedy films. He has over 30 million subscribers on YouTube and has been a media presenter there for around 10 years. Mark has also been involved in multiple podcasts with his friends, and even started a clothing brand with another famous YouTuber and close friend, Jacksepticeye, called CLOAK.

Mark is honestly a national treasure. His content is always entertaining, and his personality — along with his skills of improv and more — makes it all the merrier. He’s also no stranger to getting personal and even emotional with his audience, trusting and caring so deeply for his viewers that it’s just so endearing. If there is anybody out there who is an inspiration and comfort YouTuber to myself and everyone else, it’s Markiplier.

Overly Sarcastic Productions

Savannah Blair, senior: Overly Sarcastic Productions is one of my favorite Youtube channels. They make educational animated videos about Literature, Mythology, and History. It’s run by two main hosts that go by Red and Blue, they create content on Youtube, but also run a Twitter, Instagram, Discord, and Podcast. The two provide comical but accurate and intriguing information presented in an easy to digest format.

Red started the channel talking about literature and mythology using her trademark sarcasm and artistic designs. Then Blue, a good friend of Red from high school, joined the channel making videos on historical civilizations and the Classical world. The two are hilarious, making their videos easy to watch even with more complex topics.

Frugal Aesthetic

Dustin Kinda, senior: There is so much media out there to consume nowadays. There’s a massive chunk of it that’s there for free, in case you didn’t know what the internet is. The thing is, there is so much out there that it’s hard to find good content. If you’re looking for some tip-top, supreme quality fashion content to stimulate your ever-hungering brain, I got you.

He’s a guy named Christian Villanueva, and he goes by Frugal Aesthetic on YouTube. He also goes by Vans@themetgala on Twitch, where he does fashion-related streams.

Through The Wire

Jaylen Dubose, freshman: Through the Wire is a podcast from four childhood friends talking about what they love, which is basketball.

The hosts consist of Kenny (or KOT4Q), Pierre, Mike, and Darrick. Each host is a fan of one or two teams — Kenny is a fan of the Bulls, Pierre is a fan of the Knicks, Mike is a Trail-Blazers/Lakers fan, and Darrick is a Lakers fan. Twice a week, this podcast posts episodes that are about an hour and some change long. Their humor and knowledge of basketball is amazing.

Distractible

Vanessa Ozburn, senior: The podcast Distractible is about three guys who get together and tell stories on anything and everything. Basically, whoever has the funniest story wins that week’s episode and gets to host the next one.

Their episode topics have no end, ranging from funniest moments to the story behind “Bob’s Fridge” installation. The narrator is also such a nice, dapper fellow. These episodes are guaranteed to make you laugh, so I recommend checking them out!

Kendall Rae

Emily Kime, senior: A true crime conspiracy theorist with an audience of almost 6 million followers across all social media platforms, Kendall Rae began her journey on social media in August of 2012, but didn’t begin posting videos until 2016. She dedicates her time to covering unsolved cases to help the families of victims find peace and closure, or even to help get publicity for certain cases. When a case gets more publicity, the chances of it being solved increase.

Her channel has accumulated around 489,478,985 views, giving her one of the top spots in the true crime YouTube community. She also has a podcast that features herself and her husband talking more about crime and their lives.
