Self-expression is very important, especially in school. We all want to feel comfortable, but also stylish. Whether we express it through clothes, piercings, jewelry, hair color — we all have something that just makes us, well, us! See how YVHS students are rocking their fashion around campus!

It’s Never Too Early for Fall

Jasmine Baxter is ready for the fall season, where it’s finally acceptable to drink pumpkin spice lattes and listen to Folklore by Taylor Swift a little too much. Those awesome brown pants are from PacSun, and her tank is from Walmart. Matching fall leaves, her flannel is from Kohl's, and she completes the look with platform Converse. She says that this outfit was inspired by Evermore, the Taylor Swift album, and felt appropriate since it has been cold. “My style is all over the place,” she says. “I take a lot of aesthetics and try them out. It varies with the season.”

Rory Gilmore is Back

Gabriella Dencklau is rocking a Rory Gilmore-inspired outfit, with corduroy pants from PacSun and an argyle top from Charlotte Russe. She accessorized this look with a white headband and bracelets from Alex and Ani and Macys and shoes from Converse. Gabriella describes her style as having a “Rory Gilmore and 90s/2000s” influence. She says that she wanted to look bookish today.

Sporting Blue

Raymond Williams is unafraid of sporting a color-coordinated look, and he looks ready to conquer the style game at YVHS. His pants are from Old Navy, and his tank is from Walmart. “I took this jacket from my brother,” Raymond says. He matches this look with Nike Air Forces and a hat from a local gas station. Raymond describes his style as “drippy.”

Comfy Is the New Cute

Olive Sanderson is looking comfortable in this second-hand look! Her white top and jeans are thrifted. Her loafers are from eBay, and she matched them with stripped socks. Tying the look together with a bag from Lululemon, Olive is ready for a long day at YVHS. She describes her style as “fun and comfortable.”

DIY Dapper

Custom clothes are growing in popularity around campus as students create their own fashions and alter pieces to create new looks. Sophomore Roderick Rogers is wearing a custom Hulk t-shirt created for his birthday. Junior Syriah Campbell sports an almost exclusively DIY outfit inspired by crystals. About her outfit, senior Kaylee Maraveles tells me, “I cropped this shirt myself, [pieces were purchased] from the same yard sale.” These kids are ready to customize any sort of clothes to fit their style!

Argyle Can Never Go Wrong

Esmeralda Mora is ready for school in a cute outfit. She doesn’t remember where her clothes are from, but she’s sporting an argyle sweater and some awesome Run Star High Top Converse with pink socks. Her galaxy phone case is very cool as well! Although she displays many classic elements of fashion, she says she “likes to be comfortable.”

Skirt Comfort

Mary Lovejoy loves to rock up to YVHS in a skirt whenever she can. Her green plaid skirt and leg warmers are from Hot Topic. Her top is from Shein, and she completes it with checkered Vans. She says that her outfit is inspired by 2000s rocker girl Avril Lavigne. Like Avril, Mary clashes lighter colors like pink and green with black. She describes her style as “comfortable with lots of skirts.”

Classy & Sassy

Chloe Phillipi is always dressed her best at YVHS. Her blouse is from Kohl's, and her pinafore is a hand-me-down. Chloe is always putting her best foot forward in these kitten heels from Famous Footwear. She’s inspired by sixties mod fashion and her favorite colors: pink, blue, and brown. “My style jumps around a lot,” she says, “but I really like to go classy and sixties if possible. If not, I just wear soft and light colors.”

Streetwear Duos

These friends are wearing stylish streetwear-inspired looks. Nathan Hoang and Iden Navarro say their style is inspired by skater fashion: “I usually wear baggy clothes. All baggy,” says Nathan. Sophomores Willow Jones and Adrian Parker both like casual, streetwear fashion. “I want to be comfortable,” Andrew tells me.

The Rodeo is in Town

Alexandra Moya is ready to audition for Oklahoma in this cowgirl-inspired outfit. With her dress from Forever 21 and Ross boots, she’s prepared for any hoedown that comes her way. But she’s not locked into one look: “My style is all over the place. I might show up emo tomorrow.”

XOXO, Gossip Girl

That’s me, junior Autumn Radcliff. In this look, I felt like I was on my way to becoming Blair Waldorf’s best friend. My plaid skirt and sweater were thrifted, and my boots are from Guess. I really thought I looked like an equestrian, but I put my hair down, and it became Gossip Girl. I would describe my style as 90s/2000s inspired.

Searching campus for fresh fashion, I saw a lot of different types of styles and examples of how people are expressing themselves at school. Creativity and originality are everywhere you look. It’s really incredible to see how my fellow students style different items and make them their own!

Autumn Radcliff loves reading, film, running, and listening to music. She is a junior at Yucca Valley High School.
