Through an exclusive interview with a handpicked group of influential ZEPETO creators, we gained deeper insights into the fascinating realm of digital fashion creativity and obtained valuable knowledge about the art of crafting game characters.

At z-emotion, we embrace an open-minded approach to the metaverse and gaming, welcoming discussions with fashion brands and designers seeking new digital experiences. In this exclusive interview, we gained insights from three renowned ZEPETO creators, each shaping the future of 3D careers.

ZEPETO, with over 350 million users globally, has garnered immense popularity, attracting renowned brands like Gucci and Nike. These interviews provided valuable insights into creative pipelines, design workflows, and the lives of ZEPETO creators, fostering excitement for continued collaboration with innovative individuals.

One of the ZEPETO creators we had the pleasure of talking with is Sara Vergara, also known as Mirmade in ZEPETO. In 2021, she took a leap of faith and ventured into creating 3D clothes with the guidance of a friend. Although it was initially challenging, Mirmade quickly grasped the process and was pleasantly surprised to see her passion transform into a profitable endeavor. Within a year, she became a verified ZEPETO Creator.

What challenges have you encountered while working with 3D programs, and how did you overcome them?

One of the primary challenges I’ve faced while working with 3D programs is my limited knowledge of 3D design. Various YouTube videos and then zeavric have provided me with valuable insights, tips, and techniques to enhance my 3D design skills, [and] I effortlessly crafted a diverse range of clothing. Additionally, I’ve adopted a proactive approach, consistently exploring different methods and tools to improve my work.

Are there any lessons you’ve learned throughout your career that you wish you had known when you first started working with 3D programs?

Reflecting on my career working with 3D programs, I’ve come to realize the importance of continuous exploration. Before using zeavric, I only used blender to make items, doing everything there manually from molding the clothes up to the creases. However, using zeavric has been incredibly satisfying. It has endless possibilities for making clothes. It is now essential for me to stay curious, open-minded, and consistently seek opportunities to expand my skills, ultimately contributing to my professional growth and expertise in the field of 3D design.

“I think all features are beneficial, especially … making ruffles and pleats in … zeavric made it so much easier. I love how the clothes perfectly fits to the avatar in zeavric. It honestly boosts up the quality of my items. Proficiency [in zeavric] has now enabled me to create a wide array of clothes effortlessly.” — Mirmade

Mariana Gomes (GMarii), another talented ZEPETO creator, emphasized utilizing multiple 3D technologies to troubleshoot effectively. Her typical workflow involves researching, creating mood boards, and refining designs in zeavric, demonstrating efficiency and high quality.

Can you describe the steps you take when beginning a new 3D project? How do you strategize and structure your workflow?

Initially, I research what I want to create to gather ideas. Then, I develop a kind of ‘mood board’ outlining the materials and details for the project. Afterward, I begin working on the garment in zeavric, where I shape the garment, considering factors such as size, fabric details, and its position on the body.

Within zeavric, I create two saves: one with the highest number of polygons and the other with low-poly. Subsequently, I transfer these files to Maya or Blender, where I focus on the UV by combining the high-poly and low-poly meshes. This allows me to transfer textures between them. Following this, I add necessary details to finalize the design with the avatar.

Moving on to Unity, I test the movements with the avatar. Once satisfied, I shift my focus to texture work in Photoshop. After completing all these steps, I submit the item to ZEPETO Studio, conduct final tests, and then proceed with the submission.

“Realism is something I like and I want it to be more and more present in my pieces, and that’s something I try to improve every day.”- GMarii

When discussing the typical workflow from concept to design for starting a new 3D project, the creators present two distinct approaches. Mirmade establishes a timeline with specific deadlines for each project to conceptualize clothing collections based on the season and current trends.

On the other hand, GMarii begins by creating a “mood board” to visualize her ideas for materials and details. Both use zeavric by z-emotion to work on the garment, considering factors such as size, fabric details, and positioning on the body to demonstrate high quality with efficiency.

Lastly, speaking with Aekyung Kim, also known as Tara, she shared her vision and journey to become one of the most influential ZEPETO creators. Tara has broadened her experience not only in clothing aesthetics, but also technical proficiency, focusing on 3D item creations. Tara mentioned, “I’ve honed my skills using various 3D modeling programs like zeavric and blender, translating ideas into visually compelling assets for the ZEPETO community.”

Describe your workflow and explain how you manage your tasks efficiently.

In planning my design items for ZEPETO, I begin by identifying current trends and user preferences within the ZEPETO community. Researching popular themes and styles helps me stay relevant. Next, I sketch and conceptualize my 3D items, ensuring they align with the app’s aesthetic. Once I have a solid concept, I use 3D modeling software blender and zeavric to bring my ideas to life, focusing on intricate details that enhance the overall user experience. Regularly updating my designs based on user feedback ensures a dynamic and engaging collection of items.

Navigating 3D software complexities can be daunting, especially for novices. To overcome this, creators turned to YouTube tutorials for insights and communities for tips and techniques. Referencing to Tara, “Patience and persistence have been key; I’ve invested time in comprehensive tutorials and sought guidance from online communities.” One of the primary challenges they faced while working with 3D programs was their limited knowledge of 3D design. To overcome this, they turned to explore new methods, such as zeavric, to upgrade their 3D design skills.

“I use zeavric to bring my ideas to life, focusing on intricate details”- Tara

When they adopted zeavric, they found that the learning curve was much faster. In addition, by adopting a proactive approach and consistently exploring different methods and tools to enhance their work, they were able to overcome the knowledge barrier and achieve the desired design outcomes. This has been crucial for them, especially when it comes to creating realistic 3D assets. The challenge lies in activating the fabric and making it as lifelike as possible to meet the expectations of visitors. While ZEPETO has its own unique visual language and properties, the ultimate goal for the three designers is to achieve high fidelity in their garments.

“ I’ve honed my skills using various 3D modeling programs like … zeavric, translating ideas into visually compelling assets for the ZEPETO community.”- Tara said.

Looking ahead, Mirmade, GMarii, and Tara are driven by their shared goal of delivering exceptional quality and products that hold significant value. This commitment fuels their continuous research and exploration of new techniques to elevate their work. For Mirmade, “zeavric made it so much easier”. The discovery of zeavric marked a turning point, streamlining her workflow and enhancing the quality of her virtual clothing designs.

Beyond the ZEPETO experience, 3D technology offers vast opportunities for designers in the real world. Reflecting on their careers, they emphasize the importance of continuous exploration and pushing the boundaries of their knowledge. Tara emphasized, “Embracing challenges as opportunities to learn and adapt has been crucial in evolving my skills as a content creator in the dynamic world of 3D design.” This mindset is pivotal in their professional growth and expertise development within the field.

“I am excited to see zeavric’s focus on quality driving strong sales for ZEPETO Creators. Receiving positive feedback from our comunity like this one reinforce our commitment to excellence in all we bring to them. zeavric’s efforts not only energize growth within the ZEPETO platform but also boost our presence int he broader market.”— Courtney McLachlan, Director of Creator Strategy

Mirmade, GMarii, and Tara express their gratitude for the invaluable knowledge acquired during their immersive digital adventure. They highly recommend keeping abreast of the latest advancements and technologies.

A heartfelt thank you to them for providing the opportunity to delve deeper into the fascinating world of ZEPETO, digital workflows, pipelines, and the exciting challenges and joys they bring.
