If you are in Kansas City — this is an exciting year to do something amazing for the sports fan in your life! (that includes YOU!)

Day 7 of our countdown to the big day is all about the sports fanatic in your house. We’ve got Superbowl BIG ideas.

The In-Home Stadium

Any room can become the ultimate in-home sports destination! The best scenario is often a basement that can be (or already is) finished. If you are starting with wide open space, the possibilities are endless. The most important thing you’ll need to figure out — how you’ll watch the big game! The bigger, the better is our opinion when it comes to screen size. From there, making sure you’ve got great sound set up and good lighting is a must.

If you want the true-stadium feel, you’ll want to set up your sound system accordingly. There are three things to keep in mind according to our sound and video system service providers:

  1. Invest in more than one subwoofer
  2. Use soft materials to absorb sound and prevent echoes. (sofas, padded chairs, throw rugs)
  3. Stay away from in-ceiling surround sound. You want a 3D sound effect when you are going to be watching games and when you want a stadium- like feel. The best placement of speakers is about two feet above ear level and to the front and sides at a horizontal angle.

After you’ve figured out what you’ll watch the game on, you’ll need to figure out seating. You can have a lot of fun with seating — including doing some of your own stadium seating! Whatever you decide for seating, make sure you’ve got a few options planned out.

You can’t have a stadium without concessions! We’ve seen people go all out with their basement kitchens. You can even pick up a good old fashioned hot dog steamer and bun warmer!

Looking for some ideas? We’ve pinned a few incredible sports-themed rooms!

The In-Home Sports Bar

You have a lot of options in building a sports bar. Family Handyman has a step-by-step guide if you feel like taking on an impressive DIY.

The three things that you don’t want to skip when having a home sports bar put in:

  1. Sink — it’s a must. You don’t want to have to haul glasses between your kitchen and your basement bar.
  2. Refrigerator — who wants a nice warm beer for the game?
  3. Countertops — wood countertops are going to be the most affordable option, however stone, marble or granite will be more durable and easy to keep clean.

Need inspiration? Check out these impressive in-home bars!

Go Outdoors
