Don’t Flush That!

When it comes to drains, there are just some things that should stay out.

Dry Rice:
Steve Snedeger, owner of Amen Plumbing in KC had this to say about dry rice: “Dry rice is the worst thing people can stick down their disposal. It starts to swell and can actually break cast iron pipes and concrete!”

Flushable Wipes:
All of our plumbers agree, flushable wipes are not flushable! They are going to cause problems down the road. Wipes do not disintegrate. It’s such a big problem that manufacturers of flushable wipes are being sued for causing havoc on sewer systems.

Condoms:
These latex prophylactics can do a lot of damage to septic tanks and sewage treatment plants.

Cotton balls/tissues:
It might seem like they would break down, but they don’t. They eventually gather together in your pipes, causing clogs.

Oils/Cooking Fats:
It may look like a liquid when it’s hot, but when it cools it congeals. What you’ll get is a pipe-clogging, garbage disposal destroying, wax.
