Although Google has hustled to bring Stadia from private beta to full-fledged product in one short year, Microsoft was actually the first of the tech giants to announce its own cloud gaming ambitions with Project xCloud. Granted, xCloud isn’t widely available just yet, but that didn’t stop me from taking a deep dive into early versions of both platforms to see how they measure up.

Stadia and Project xCloud were compared on six major points: power/performance, visual fidelity, game selection, versatility, pricing, and availability. Not surprisingly, Stadia bested xCloud in game loading speeds, graphical performance, the number of supported screen formats, and public availability.

The only place where xCloud unequivocally pulled ahead was in game selection. Microsoft’s service currently boasts a free library featuring 87 different titles, many of which are Microsoft exclusives like Halo, Forza 4: Horizon, and more. However, with at least 120 games destined for Stadia this year alone, this pain point will diminish soon.

There is a ton more to the Stadia vs. Project xCloud story — 1900 words, in fact. Check out my full analysis at the link below. Once you’re finished reading, jump back over to Stadia Source and tell us why you believe one cloud gaming service is better than the other.
