Raspberry Pi or ASUS Tinkerboard?
Since many years if any single name comes when thought about SBC then it is none other than Raspberry Pi. It has been reigning the regime of SBC since long and has drawn the attention of developers and enthusiasts because of its cost-effectiveness and huge community.
But then comes a time when our favourite SBC faces competition from none other than the tech giant-ASUS. It released it’s SBC on 19th April 2017, with a brand name Tinkerboard.
This post is aimed at throwing light on various factors that will help us choose one depending on the need of the project. So here it goes- :)
- ) The new Raspberry pi 3b+ comes with ARM cortex-A53 quad core with a clock speed of 1.4Ghz. Asus tinkerboard comes with ARM Cortex A-17 quad core with a clock speed of 1.8Ghz.
- ) The former supports bluetooh 4.2 which makes it more faster than Raspberry pi 3b supporting bluetooth v4.1 while the latter supports bluetooth v4.0.
- ) Raspberry pi has 1GB LPDDR2 RAM whereas the asus tinkerboard has 2GB LPDDR3 RAM.
4. ) Asus tinkerboard has one HDMI port which supports 4K whereas the raspberry pi 3b+ similarly has one HDMI port which supports FHD.
5.) According to some of the online benchmarks results, asus tinkerboard is twice as fast as raspberry pi 3b and is faster in reading from and writing to storage.
6.) Both raspberry pi 3b+ and the asus tinkerboard have heatsinks already installed in them.Until and unless you do not want to overclock the performance of the SoC there is no need to attach any further fans or heatsinks.The heatsink already installed in the SoC is good for general purpose operation.
7.) The new raspberry pi supports Tensorflow which makes it easier to implement machine learning models. Asus Tinkerboard also supports tensorflow models but not in such a straight forward way as the new raspberry pi 3B+.
The asus tinkerboard is priced at 67$ whereas the raspberry pi 3b+ is priced at 35$.
Now it depends on the user to choose amongst the two depending on the need of project.
