Have you ever seen a designer who doesn’t dream about a really challenging project? What do you consider to be of great success in branding? Just imagine: one Monday morning Ferrari calls you asking to design a new logo for them… Or better yet Tesla? Google? Think bigger! What about a logo for the whole planet? Why not, thought OSKAR PERNEFELDT, student of Beckmans College of Design (Stockholm, Sweden), and started his work on Planet Earth Flag. That’s what we call being ambitious enough!
Believe it or not, his work was appreciated (innumerable amount of times it appears in web design blogs, science news and finally found its place on Wiki). We haven’t seen it in outer space yet, but it’s just a matter of time.
“Current expeditions to outer space use different national flags depending on which country is funding the voyage. The space travelers, however, are more than just representatives of their own countries. They are representatives of planet Earth.” — that’s how Oskar explained his choice for graduation project topic.
Where can we use it? On spacemen’s suits, in Mars colony in 2025, or just on the city streets as a symbol of unimportance of national boundaries.
Flag of the Earth consists of seven white rings on deep-sea-blue background. Interlacing rings create a flower and blue color goes as a symbol of Earth oceans. Symbolic meaning is layered, it represents the life on our planet and, on the other hand, the way in which everything in linked, directly or not.

Seth Godin once said: “If it scares you, it must be a good thing to try”. Nothing is too ambitious for creative mind! Have a good Monday!
