Here’s some advice on how to make your portfolio stand out.
Step 2: Take part in a short pre-screening video interview with one of our recruiters to learn more about Zalando and to share your professional motivation and past experiences.
Step 3: Prepare for your Hiring Days interviews which will include a Design Deep Dive and a Whiteboard Challenge. Get ready to meet your future design manager and be introduced to our projects and team culture. Remember, this is a great opportunity for you to ask questions and share your feedback.
Our Hiring Team Answers Your Questions
We got together with our Talent Acquisition partners Angela Diapari and Claudia Medri so that they could answer some questions for candidates. Here’s all you need to know about what to expect when you take part in our Hiring Days, and some advice on how to best prepare for your interviews.
Why should I consider joining Zalando?
You may already know that Zalando is Europe’s leading online platform for fashion and that we connect customers, brands and partners across 17 markets. We drive digital solutions for fashion, logistics, advertising, and research, bringing head-to-toe fashion to more than 35 million active customers.
But Zalando is more than an international company with interesting opportunities. We want to be a force for good in the fashion world. We’ve decided to lead by example and address the industry’s biggest challenges, including climate change, the use of resources, and workers’ rights. As the largest online fashion platform in Europe we are uniquely positioned in the fashion industry to make a dent, so that’s what we’re planning to do.

What is the deadline for applying for this event and what happens if I miss it?

What locations are you hiring for?
Berlin, Dublin and Helsinki.
Can I work remotely?
We currently require team members to be resident and have a bank account in their country of employment. Our current work-from-home policy allows our employees to work remotely 100% of the time until the 1st of July 2021. Stay tuned, but please do not apply (yet) if you are not open to relocation.
Where will the interviews be held?
The interviews will take place remotely via Google Meets.
How many interviews will I have?
There will be three interviews: a short interview with the hiring manager, a Design Deep Dive, and a Whiteboard Challenge.
How can I prepare for the virtual Hiring Days?
Here’s some advice on how to prepare for the two design interviews:
Design Deep Dive: Pick two projects that will help us understand your work in more detail. We want the behind-the-scenes view of your portfolio, including artefacts from various stages in your design process. The more raw, direct and real, the better. Make sure you’ll be able to point out (and zoom in on) specific details. This means going beyond a screenshot in a PowerPoint or PDF. Be ready to answer questions like “What were your pivotal interaction design decisions?” or “With whom did you collaborate?” and “What challenges did you overcome?”

Whiteboard Challenge: This interview will consist of two to three exercises that we have prepared for you. We want to see how you think while solving a design challenge, so the interview will be quite interactive and will include screen sharing. It works best when you are able to show the work you’re doing and see the interviewer(s) at the same time. There will be some early-stage brainstorming and some rough wireframing. Take some time to think through the right setup for the interview. For instance, you might want to have two cameras and/or screens (e.g. dialing in with a computer and mobile device) so that you can show your design as well as see our design interviewers when interacting with them.
