There are two things that never fail to attract media attention to bitcoin.

Good news…

…and bad news

This is mostly how the mainstream media interacts with the cryptocurrency industry. Media professionals only learn on a surface level about bitcoin.

Most journalists never get a chance to take time understanding how bitcoin changes the way people interact with money.

The community on ZapChain thinks:

1. The media doesn’t do enough research

The media is supposed to cover the news and get it out as quickly as possible. Many journalists are simply don’t have the time to read everything needed to fully understand bitcoin’s potential.

“They simply don’t have time to examine it in the kind of depth required, so they stick to convenient narratives like: bitcoin is edgy and its fans are weird ideologues, it’s interesting technology but oh, the potential for crime and terrorism.”

Jon Southurst, tech and bitcoin writer

“I’ve seen the media jump to conclusions and write articles before they understand what they’re talking about.”

Kevin Ferreira, Boston-based artist

2. The media doesn’t know technology

It’s possible bitcoin could be a rival to existing business strategies the media uses. The media is wary of bitcoin because it may have to compete with a technology it doesn’t fully understand.

“I believe the mainstream media doesn’t understand most things, let alone a breakthrough technology like math-based currencies.

John Packel, evangelist

“I find that the mainstream media tends to lack understanding of most technology topics in general.”

Bohan Huang, CDO at Uro Foundation
