It has been almost two months since Zapper levelled up by gamifying our dashboard to enhance the DeFi experience and reward our users for interacting with different strategies and protocols.

We are excited to share that we are building on the success of the gamification experience on Zapper with the launch of wallet profiles.

What are Wallet Profiles?

The introduction of wallet profiles is the first in a series of updates that will make using the Zapper dashboard and progressing through quests and levels a more interactive and collaborative experience.

Today’s launch involves streamlining the interface to make it easier for users to watch activity on public wallets they have access to. Before this update, in order to check activity in a watched wallet, users needed to switch out of their connected wallet and into the watched wallet. Now, the updated interface allows users to add and monitor watched wallets from a new address book page within the dashboard without ever having to disconnect from their own wallet.

This is a small but essential adjustment to the flow of the Zapper dashboard, making wallet watching a much more intuitive experience.

What is the Purpose of a Watched Wallet?

If you are new to DeFi, you might be thinking, wait… why would I want to “watch” someone else’s wallet? Due to the open nature of blockchain technology, all on-chain transactions are perpetually visible on a public ledger. This means that if a person shares their public key, anybody can view the activity associated with that wallet.

This feature of the blockchain has given rise to two popular DeFi activities. The first is whale watching. The second is the practice of monitoring other peoples’ financial strategies to learn from them and adapt your own strategy.

In DeFi, a “whale” is a term to describe a crypto investor who has a huge amount of cryptocurrency, usually large enough to influence the market in some way. Vitalik Buterin, a founder of Ethereum, and venture capitalist Mark Cuban are two examples of “whales.” Vitalik and Mark are good examples of wallets that individuals can monitor if they’d like to practice “whale watching.”

It is also a common practice to keep tabs on wallets belonging to peers and colleagues, in order to see how others are investing their assets and to get inspiration for your own personal financial strategy.

Track XP Rewards and Compete with your Friends

Zapper’s wallet profile feature seamlessly integrates whale watching and monitoring your peers’ wallets into the dashboard. But it also facilitates a third activity, which is unique to Zapper. With this update it is possible to view your friends’ and colleague’s level on Zapper quests and browse their NFT collection! This creates an important link with the gamification features of Zapper, adding a competitive element to your daily and weekly quests.

Do you have more XP than the wallets you are watching? Better level up to ensure you’re ahead of the pack!

The Future of Gamification on Zapper

The possibilities for gamification on Zapper are endless, as are the possibilities for gamification in DeFi more broadly. We view wallet profiles as a key extension of the gamified experience on the Zapper dashboard, a first step into the expanding Zapperverse.

This is just the beginning of a series of exciting updates on Zapper. Keep an eye out for further updates and related Alpha Leaks in the coming weeks and months as our team continues to build the most accessible DeFi dashboard out there.
