Isle of Miles is a mobile fitness game where the miles you walk or run are used to build a virtual island. Whether you’re using the app to lose weight or just to stay healthy, here are 5 tips for getting the most out of your experience.

1. Form a healthy habit. If you’re trying to make your lifestyle healthier, the first few days are the toughest. Make sure you complete your daily and weekly distance goals on a regular basis, even if you aren’t feeling motivated. Once a habit is formed, it will get easier.

2. Bring friends onboard. Tell a few friends or co-workers about the game to give yourself accountability and competition. Once they have joined, simply search for their screen names and add them to your leader board. When I added a few of my real life friends and co-workers to the game, I started feeling the social pressure to perform even better. I’d look at the leader board to see how I was doing against my friends, and I assume they were all doing the same. [Bonus tip: find your competitive spirit by competing with your rivals!]

3. Let your island represent you. Let your creative personality shine through on your island. Pan around the ocean to see what others are doing; borrow ideas, mix things up, and create something unique. After all, you have earned your land.

The next two tips are especially for people who are trying to lose weight. I’ve been on my own personal weight-loss journey and these tips helped me. We do not have business partnerships with any of the brands mentioned.

4. Count calories. It’s almost impossible to lose weight without watching your food intake. My favorite app for nutrition and calorie counting is MyFitnessPal.

5. Get inspired. There is a community of players in the game itself, but external communities like r/progresspics on Reddit help a lot when you are trying to stay motivated.

Have any Isle of Miles tips you want to share? We’d love to hear how you’re improving your experience! Can’t promise we won’t steal ’em though!
