2018 Z Best Dressed List Maker: Jannel Varona
“I studied journalism in college with hopes to be a fashion magazine editor someday. But then I stumbled into the creative/freelance realm and now I love working for myself!” ~ Jannel Varona
A little about the moment that Jannel’s first realized her passion for fashion:
I was a sophomore in college studying journalism when I first got invited to NYFW. I remember skipping a class to travel into the city wearing Forever 21 to catch one show. It wasn’t a big brand and it wasn’t in the tents at Lincoln Center but I went. I was surrounded by people dressed in Chanel and brands alike. I knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry. I didn’t even know fashion weeks are all over the world. Fast forward to this year, I recently went to Paris partly for my first ever PFW. Life is so funny and full of full circles.
I am currently loving Madewell
The place of fashion in Jannel’s life:
Fashion is definitely part of my day-to-day. From when I wake up to the moment I sleep, fashion is in what I wear, what I do, the projects I create and the plans I make for the next day.
My signature piece has to be a turtle neck as of late. It has been the best canvas to any winter wardrobe.
We asked Jannel, “ if you could trade your entire closet with any woman in the world, who would it be?”
If I could choose any woman to trade closets with, it would probably be Emma Watson.
“And would you actually do it?”
And, speaking of grabbing someone’s style from their closet, many of the Trench members (aka Trenchies) state that one of the things they like most about being part of the Never Ending Closet community is being fashionable while being very environmentally conscious and sustainable.
Jannel told us about the meaning of fashion sustainability to her.
Sustainability in fashion is important to my everyday fashion. Before Trench, I would much rather go to a thrift store rather than a shopping mall. Aside from reducing my consumer carbon footprint, vintage is always better.
And to wrap up, a fun fact about Jannel:
I used to work at Burger King in high school and my friends called me Burger Queen. For someone that loves burgers so much now, that fun fact doesn’t really upset me as much.
