3 Beauty Looks For Lunar New Year
We know that the lucky colours to wear around this time of year are red (signifying good fortune and joy) and gold (representing luck) but sometimes incorporating both colours into your makeup is a little trickier than first thought — especially when it’s your 3rd event of that week and inspiration is lacking. We’ve taken three great looks from the runway which you can easily recreate at home, all of which incorporate the red and gold theme, making them perfect for ringing in the Lunar New Year.
Fresh Faced Glow
This natural look is super relaxed and you’ll look fresh faced and gorgeous throughout the day without the fear of anything smudging or fading. Achieve a long-lasting and flawless shine-free look by starting with a primer, accentuate your cheekbones with a two-toned highlighter and bronzer and finish with a touch of blusher on the apples of your cheeks. Open up your eyes with a small flick of eyeliner and coating of mascara. To emphasise your eyebrows (as they are the frame to your face) fill them in using a brow pencil the same shade as your natural colour.
Off-Duty Glam
Go for an off duty rock ’n’ roll glamourous look with a just-off centre parting and loose wave. This you can easily achieve by tying your wet hair into a top knot the night before, it’ll then dry with a wave. Makeup wise, start with a BB Cream with SPF Protection that will give your skin a clear matte finish. This is important as other than a touch of blusher on your cheeks your makeup is going to be very little. Continue with the edgier look by keeping your lashes bare only lightly curling them. The real focus here is your lips. A raspberry red lippy which has been slightly blotted will be a warm addition to this otherwise low key look.
All Or Nothing
Now is the time for a little more allure. Start with a base of primer and then add foundation to the areas which need a little more help, be careful not to engulf your skin in makeup, keep it as natural as possible. Open up your eyes with a light shade of eyeshadow lightly dusted on your eye lids, by adding a thick line of black eyeliner with extended cat-flick it will create a little more drama and flirtation to your look. A rich wine shade of red is a great choice of lippy that you can wear all day with little fuss and is the perfect accompaniment to the cat-flick. Hair up or down — it’s your choice depending on how much drama you’re after!
