ZIP-1 is a community-led initiative to launch a staging chain called Nautilus.

The Zebec community recently voted and passed the first Zebec Improvement Proposal (ZIP-1), proposing the creation of Nautilus Chain. Nautilus will serve as a staging chain for Zebec Chain. As a precursor that will be launched on its mainnet, Nautilus will play a crucial role in ensuring a successful launch for Zebec Chain, scheduled in late Q3 of this year.

What Is Nautilus Chain?

Nautilus will test a modular blockchain design that separates data storage, execution, and settlement into different layers. It will serve as an L3 infrastructure, enabling developers to deploy app-specific chains on top of scalable L2 solutions. This gives them full control over the programming of their apps without having to share blockspace with other apps, thus creating unparalleled scalability. Current estimates put Zebec Chain’s TPS at over 100,000 TPS.

This means that the Nautilus Chain will provide a more efficient and flexible solution for developers and dApps, compared to traditional blockchains. Developers will be able to balance throughput with decentralization and have more control over how their apps are programmed. The modular design of Nautilus will also make it easier to upgrade and improve the system over time. From the proposal:

“With Nautilus, developers will be able to choose between various L1s for data availability and consensus, including Celestia, Cosmos, or Ethereum. Starting, developers will be able to use Ethereum for consensus and Cosmos’ IBC connectivity. For the transaction execution layer, they can choose between using the EVM, Solana VM, and Move, with others to follow.”

A Perfect Playground for Developers

Nautilus will be good for the community because of its positive impact on the price of $ZBC. $ZBC will power Nautilus chain, and 25% of all gas fees will be burned, deflating the supply of the token and raising its price.

But Nautilus Chain will also be a great tool for developers — and give them more freedom than they have on other blockchains.

Many of Zebec Protocol’s current partners have agreed to deploy dApps on Nautilus to help with testing. It’s expected that 20–30 Zebec Protocol partners will help test Nautilus, and we are grateful that past partners are willing to help in this community-led initiative.

Stay tuned for more updates on Nautilus Chain in the coming days! Also, be sure to check out Zebec’s new governance platform to participate in future voting on ZIPs. You can see Zebec’s governance platform here.

About Zebec Protocol

Zebec is a tax-compliant payment protocol with over 60 business clients and more than $300 million in TVL. It is a continuous settlement protocol founded by Sam Thapaliya that makes payments more efficient, fair, and decentralized.

Businesses, ecosystem partners, and institutions use Zebec Protocol to stream real-time, per-second payments to payees. By more efficiently leveraging the time value of money, Zebec makes money worth more.
