With our series “Zebras in the Wild”, we are excited to take you on a journey around the world to meet founding members, chapter leads, co-op members and allies. We talk to Zebras in the wild and report back how they’re challenging the status quo, how they envision the future and how we can support them in their mission!

In this episode of Zebras in the Wild, meet Dror Yaron, Co-founder of Ethics MVP; a company committed to making ethics practical in innovation spaces.

Throughout his career as a community engagement leader, artist, and educator, Yaron has been committed to rebalancing societal power structures by building relationships and storytelling.

Yaron spent the past decade with the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. Considering technology’s societal impact — threat and promise — Yaron has facilitated conversations with tech developers, tech users, and other stakeholders around values-driven tech practice. He built strategic partnerships for generating at-scale, context-driven purposeful tech practices.

Yaron studied at the International Center of Photography in New York. His photography and journalism experience informed his earlier work, leading creative inquiries into questions of identity in collaborations with learners and educators.

Read what Dror has to say about the capital, community and culture of the next economy:

A Zebra is..

… moving thoughtfully and building stuff

What’s wrong with the status quo?

I’m not sure which one to pick: The egregious imbalance of power or the existence of poverty.

Your vision for the future

I envision a future in which growth is measured by depth, not size/quantity.

The community of the future

… is locally driven, globally informed and balanced with a strong orientation toward an ecosystem mindset.

The capital infrastructure of the future

… allows everyone to live with dignity and in community and allows no one to hoard resources.

The culture and values of the future

  • Shared humanity
  • Culture matters
  • Values drive decisions and action

Dror’s role in bringing about this future

My contribution to shifting toward a new and better system is rebalancing societal power structures by building relationships and through storytelling.

What does support for you look like?

I’d love some help in opting out of the system, figuring a way to be a Zebra that eats and goes to the doctor. I’m also hoping to shift the public conversation by amplifying and sharing our voice as a collective.

I want to create a successful example of an alternative ecosystem.

Dror’s question to the community

How do we measure what matters to help tell a different story?

Give a shout-out! Who is a Zebra that everyone needs to know about?

I keep making friends. I find so many of my people at Zebras Unite:

  • Aniyia Williams for being among the few people I can talk to without having to explain where I’m coming from. For her ecosystem vision. For telling me about Zebras
  • Mara Zepeda, so glad we got to talk one on one. Beautiful person. I could never imagine someone with so many specific nonlinear-life-journey details in common
  • Miah Shull Olmsted, for working to answer my question above
  • Jen van der Meer for imagining and inspiring alternative paths for business
  • Lauren Bacon for powerful design and storytelling
