#SundaySong — ‘Roll Away The Stone’ by Kelly Joe Phelps

Seeing as it’s Easter Sunday, I wanted to tickle your ears with a tune that is at least mildly topical. While wracking my brain for a track that referenced the moment, not written by The Hold Steady, this song popped up.

It had been a while since I listened to Kelly Joe Phelps, and there is absolutely no good reason for this. One of the most well worn tropes in music is ‘one dude with a guitar’ and yet Phelps is one of those artists who makes the experience so unique, creative and fresh, while sounding equally timeless.

Playing a lap-slide guitar, and harmonizing it with his voice, Phelps creates a sound and experience so much larger than the sum of it’s parts. So give this track a listen, and then do yourself a favor and give one of his records a cover to cover listen. Goes great with coffee and whiskey.
