STEAM Kitchen-Learning Through Senses
Eating and preparing foods can be a great sensory experience for children and a fun learning opportunity.
Alpha generation. all kids born after 2010, are sensorial learners, so the best way to teach them is through their senses.
Not to mention children are “hands-on” learners. They learn by exploring and manipulating objects in their environment using the five senses: seeing, touching, tasting, smelling, and hearing. Eating and preparing foods can be a great sensory experience for children and a fun learning opportunity.
Preschoolers are able to understand and identify many sensory concepts: changes between raw and cooked food; types of smells and tastes (sour, sweet, bitter); and characteristics of food (colors, textures, and shapes).
1. While preparing food kids will develop fundamental skills like :
smell, see, listen and feel the texture of the ingredients one by one!
2. Cooking also brings families and friends together so it is a great way to spend time together and socialize.
3.While cooking. baking we learn a lot about the ingredients of our food, so we actually learn, biology, chemistry, and geography.
4. Measuring and learning about proportion is pure mathematics, but you can understand all these units and fractions in an easy, hands-on and fun environment.
5. Shopping is so much fun! But shopping wisely is financial literacy, budgeting, and saving!
6. Using technology in the kitchen, getting open source apps and hardware can bring to understand how technology can help us to make cooking and baking easier.
7.Last but not least sharing your food and learning to care about your family, friends, and the community it is the best emotional intelligence exercise for kids!
Cooking and baking, knowing where your food comes from, understanding what you eat it is important if you want to stay healthy.
So this is why we included STEAM Kitchen in our Kids Hub Workshops program and our kids love every moment of it and are looking forward to Thursdays when we cook, bake and learn all about our everyday food!
