The mission in Afghanistan is over. Taliban forces are taking over Kabul as the US army retreats.

20 years of war, over 100,000 lives lost, trillions wasted, and all for what? For freedom? For peace? For human rights?

It all seems like a huge F*ck up.

I’d like to think the intention was good but the plan was not realistic. In any case, now, after the fact, it all seems like a big waste.

But why are there so many interventions in the middle east? Have any of these ever succeeded? and Who’s paying for all this?

The Petrodollar

It could be argued that at least some of the conflicts in the region have been motivated by the need to take control of oil resources and defend the supremacy of the petrodollar.

Take Iraq or Libya for example. To this day, no one knows the reason for invading these countries although there is a theory.

About two years before the invasion, Saddam Hussein decided to move away from the petrodollar and started receiving payments in Euros. Qaddafi followed suit. It could be just a coincidence but both leaders were dead soon after their attempts to escape the dollar mafia.
